October Wrap-Up & Book Haul: Soooo Busy!

→ WOWZA. October was a rollercoaster. It started off super chill – I read 3 books, I blog hopped, I prepped some blog posts, all the bookish things were going smoothly. Then, suddenly, I got very busy!

Luckily, most of it was fun stuff! We had two baby showers, which were amazing. One was hosted by my parents and it was the family/friend one. We did some of the corny baby shower games. One of them was the drinking-beer-out-of-a-baby-bottle game. That was pretty funny to watch! The other baby shower was hosted by our neighbor and all of our neighbors were there. It was super nice of them, especially the one that did all the work. Seriously, I could’ve cried (I held it together, though). And, y’all, thank goodness for baby showers. Baby shit is expensive lol

We also saw the new Joker movieI reviewed it here – and we got to see Doctor Sleep early because of Fandango VIP Early Access. I’ll be reviewing that one next week! We celebrated a friend’s birthday and tonight we have a Halloween party (I’m going as Rose the Hat from Doctor Sleep). In between all the social engagements, I’ve been furiously prepping for the baby. His room is nearly ready, but there is still plenty to do! I’m tellin’ you, we’re basically busy for the rest of our lives now because there’s not much time left before our baby boy is here! Eeeeeep

  • Long Grows the Dark – This was a good indie read! There were some flaws in terms of world-building but I thought the romance was great! If you’re looking to support an indie author and like fantasy romance novels, you can check this one out. Here is my review.
  • The Haunting of Hill House – SO DISAPPOINTING. I just did not like anything about this one. You can read my full review for all my ranting.
  • Daughter of the Forest – I really enjoyed this one! Sometimes it is a bit slow but overall, I loved the story. I also loved the main character. She’s super resilient and admirable. Read my review for all my thoughts!

  • Soulwalkers – I got this one for review from the author. I love the cover and am super excited to read this one with magic in New Orleans. I have it on my TBR for November.
  • Parting Shadows & Phantom Song – This is book 1 and 2 in the indie Toccata System trilogy. The author, Kate, is super nice and is a friend on bookstagram! I also have these on my TBR for November.

  • Viper – I saw this book on bookstagram and OMG the cover. I made my first order from Book Depository just to get it. It also sounds like a great story! I’m excited about this one.
  • Criers War & I Hope You Get This Message – These both came in the October Owlcrate. I don’t actually know much about them but that cover for Criers War is gorgeous!
  • Ninth House – Obviously I picked this one. No explanation needed.

How was your October? What did you do for Halloween? Did you dress up? Are you ready for Christmas to be here?!

Like beer isn’t hard enough to drink, they went and put it in a baby bottle. Glad the showers were fun!
