May Wrap-Up: A Rollercoaster

→  May was a mixed bag for me. We were busy, with something going on almost every weekend again, but it was also really emotional. Between Mother’s Day (and me not being on talking terms with my mother at that point), to my mom’s birthday at the end of the month (in which we finally “made up), it’s just been a lot. I don’t really go into specifics here, but I will say it is incredibly frustrating to tell someone they desperately need therapy, and they agree with you, for them to just refuse to actually make that phone call. I wish I could force her because I know she’d benefit so much from it, but I can’t. So, the ups and downs are just exhausting to deal with. But I always hope and pray for the best and for now…everything is okay.

→ With that said, Mother’s Day was a wonderful day for me. Emerson made me a little card and planted a succulent in a small pot. I played video games that entire day (Spider Man: Miles Morales) and my husband made me one of my favorite childhood meals (shredded chicken, white rice, cream of mushroom soup). He calls it prison slop and isn’t a huge fan, but for me, it means comfort. Besides, I could have chosen a complicated meal, and instead it was a 3-ingredient one-pan dish. I’d say he got off easy 😆

→ Also, Emerson went to his first baseball game! While I find baseball kind of boring, I’m glad he had fun. He got a rally monkey and ended up on the big screen during the game!

I actually posted really consistently this month! Though, I didn’t blog hop as often as I wanted to (re: the emotional and busy month I had). I’m hoping that in June I can blog hop more, now that things have returned to “normal“. Anyway, here is everything I posted this month; in case you missed it:

MEET ME AT THE LAKE
by Carley Fortune

Unfortunately, this is the only book I read in May. And it isn’t great, because I disliked it a lot, as demonstrated by my review. Maybe June will bring better books my way!

I did finish a beta read in May as well, but I can’t share about that one. Hopefully I can share about that one soon because it was a fun pirate one with enemies to lovers that I think some of you would enjoy!

For now, this is all you get. 😉

TAYLOR SWIFT

I’m not going to say I’m a Swiftie, but man, am I enjoying her newest album. I was never a huge fan of hers but there’s just something about Bejeweled, Vigilante Shit, and Karma that hits different when working out in the morning.

Also, I never knew Taylor Swift lore existed and now I need a hardcore Swiftie to direct me to where I should begin this rabbit hole.

  • This past week’s Top Ten Tuesday is coming next week because I didn’t write it ahead of time but also didn’t want to churn out a half-assed post I wrote the night before. So, yeah, you’ll see that next week 😆
  • A few summer themed posts that are bookish, mom-ish, and lifestyle-ish
  • Father’s Day movie & book recommendations, with a twist (I’m kind of diggin’ sharing movie and tv things again, it reminds me of my Movies & More Monday days, if you’ve been around that long)

» JUNE TBR «

I currently have the audiobooks for Book Lovers and the new Hunger Games book from the library. Book Lovers would be my first Emily Henry book. Unfortunately, my library doesn’t have a big selection of her novels, so my options were limited and the hold for her new book is over a year long! My hold for The Book that Wouldn’t Burn is going to be available from my library in a couple of days, so I’m throwing that on my TBR. I already have the T. Kingfisher book. I saw it a couple weeks ago at my library and grabbed it because I’ve never read any of her books (I need to renew it, it’s technically overdue so thank goodness for no late fees anymore). Then Fourth Wing is the book club pick for the book club I’m in. I was so desperate for the black edges, I had to find it from a fellow book club member who found it in her area and is shipping it to me this week!

I’m also reading 2 beta reads, which I’m not allowed to talk about, but I am super excited for!

How did May treat you? Did you read or watch anything good? Anything fun to share? What are you looking forward to in June?

I’m glad that your husband and son gave you a wonderful Mother’s Day! I’m sorry you’re having troubles with your own mom, though!

I am so sorry that things are so rough with your mom. That must be incredibly difficult, especially around those “big” days. But I am SO glad that you had such a nice Mother’s Day! I feel you, baseball bores me too heh. Also great reading choices for the month, I hope you enjoy them, can’t wait to hear your thoughts!
