June Wrap-Up: Summer Kick Off!

This was such a busy month! For Father’s Day we went to Medieval Times. Emerson dressed as a knight and we sat in the front row, so he had a blast. We also went to the Rennaissance fair. Clearly, we are making sure this kid loves that time in history! I signed Emerson up for pee wee t-ball, we went to his besties birthday party, we had library dates and picnics in the park, we had a pirate themed family dinner/movie night, we had to get a pipe in our pool fixed, and I cleaned up our backyard to get ready for lots of pool days this summer! It was a great kick off to the new season.

We’ve also just been enjoying this weather! I am usually all about fall and winter, but I am so sick of the gloom so far this year! I have just been soaking up all the rays I can get lately. I even made sure that every dinner this week could be grilled on the bbq, just to force us outside.

A little writing check-in: imposter syndrome is real y’all. But after an encouraging talk with my husband and a friend over on bookstagram, I feel much better and with that comes some changes! Not to my story, but in the way I write it. I’ve always been a pantser, but after a year of trying to figure out how to write my story, I’ve realized that it doesn’t actually work for me. I need a plan. So, I’ve started an official outline. I’ve always had general ideas, but I get sidetracked and veer way off course with all the in between. One thing I need to be comfortable with is that I’m just not as fast as other people when it comes to outlining and first drafts – and that’s ok.

I was not as active with blogging this month as I had planned, oops. I kept us busy, apparently. So here are the measly 3 posts I shared this month:

Next month is my blogiversary and I’d like to celebrate it in some way! What do you guys usually like to see for blogiversary posts? An “All About the Blogger“, a “Looking Back at the Years“, a giveaway? Give me some ideas on how to best celebrate this year! I don’t think I’ve ever done a big post about it, so I’m excited to actually do something this time around!

I’m also hoping to start up a new monthly feature in July. It really depends on what I end up reading, but fingers crossed I semi-stick to my tbr!

I listened to two audiobooks and read 3 beta reads in June.

Book Lovers was my introduction to Emily Henry and I absolutely loved it! I can’t wait to read another one of her books. I’ve been told Beach Read is another great one by her. What do you think?

I also listened to The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and I…did not like it. I haven’t reviewed it yet because I don’t have a lot to say. It felt very all over the place…I don’t even remember how it ends if I’m being honest. At about halfway, I stopped knowing what the book was even about. So, I’m definitely not writing a full review for that one.

The three beta reads I can’t really talk about. Two haven’t been announced by the authors yet, but I loved both of them and can’t wait to see the final product. The last one has been announced so I can confidently say that y’all are going to love Wind Flowers by Lina C. Amarego when it releases! That book was amazing. Unfortunately, that is about all I can say right now. In the meantime, why don’t y’all check out her other books! I’m currently reading Daughter of the Deep!

I’m back on my health kick this month so I have two faves in that department to share with you.

  1. Workout programs from Lauren Gleisberg. I love the weight training she does (I am not a HIIT girl, especially with my bad joints). I’m currently doing the Q3 program. If you like lifting weights and have bad knees, try hers out 😆
  2. LSF Nutrition wellness boosts. Look, this one may be snake oil, or a placebo, but I am really enjoying taking my LSF supplements every day. I have only gotten sick once, I am in a better mood in the morning, and I sleep like a baby. So, if you’re on the hunt for tasty supplements, check Love Sweat Fitness out! I have Wing Woman right when I wake up, Miss Congeniality in my coffee, Natural Beauty at lunch, and Slumber Party in almond milk right before bed.

How was your month? Did you read anything great? Watch anything good? Do anything fun? Tell me all about it!

What a wonderful June! Your kiddo is so adorable. I’ve been struggling so much with my writing. I just haven’t had that spark—with my Nanowrimo projects or the blog. It’s really encouraging to hear how you’re making things work. I’m trying to be kind with myself and confident the spark will come back. I know it’s time for my first blog hiatus. Hopefully that will help. As for my blogiversary, I usually do a special post with some of my favorite reads for the past year and a giveaway. It’s fun just to recognize each blogging year that goes by. If you loved Book Lovers, you’ll probably enjoy all of Henry’s other romances. Book Lovers was actually my least favorite, but I still really enjoyed it. And I’m bummed to hear you didn’t like Ballad, but I’m not surprised. That seems to be the general consensus. I’m about to do a reread of The Hunger Games before I read Ballad. I might wouldn’t even read it but I already bought it. Oh well. Hopefully the adaptation will be better!

Thank you! I think he’s cute too 😉 hahah

And thats ok to take a break! I’ve been working on this WIP on and off for over a year. I’ve restarted it a couple of times too. So I’m not even close to a finished draft lol Those little breaks in between are helpful!

After reading Ballad I kind of want to reread The Hunger Games! I’m trying to reread Twilight this month first though lol

Looks like it was a fun month!
I definitely had the same realisation with my writing a while back. I always thought I was a pantser, but eventually I had to start planning and found that having even a vague outline stopped me getting stuck and giving up.
And I’m glad you liked Book Lovers! I loved that book too. The only other Emily Henry book I’ve read is Beach Read, and I’d really recommend it.
    Have a great month!

That’s awesome! It’s funny because I am a planner with every other area of my life so idk why I would think I wasn’t a planner with writing too haha
