July Wrap-Up: It’s a Hot One

Y’all, it is to fucking hot. Pardon my french, but hot diggity-dog, I do not like the heat. And listen, I know when I tell you the temperatures this week there will be some of you that might laugh at me – but for the same reason I hate super cold weather, I hate super-hot weather: I am a Southern California girly who likes my days in the low 70’s and sunny. Now that that has been addressed, it is currently in the 80’s. It’s too many slices, y’all. I can’t do it.

Now that I’ve whined, here’s what I’ve been up to this month! My hair turned green because we got a pipe in our pool fixed but never adjusted the chemicals before I went swimming (I was impatient). 2 weeks later and it is still green, so any tips will be appreciated (I already did ketchup and would rather not do that one again). We went to the fair, which was nice because my dad came with us and it’s nearly impossible to get that guy to go anywhere. Potty training has been a hot mess, but it’s getting better. I would rather have a newborn again than potty training a toddler, just sayin’. No one warned me about this stage and I am giving all of those parents a bombastic side eye. Oh, but I got a Kindle Paperwhite, so I’m hoping that increases the chances of me actually reading a book (I read nothing in July, oops). We shall see.

I’m a member of my local MOPs group (Moms of Preschoolers). I was on the fence about joining again for next year, but I realized that having a community of moms with kids in the same age range as Emerson has been such a Godsend. So, I am not only rejoining, but I also took on some “leadership” roles. I’m in charge of planning playdates and the curriculum for the kids next year! And when I tell you I’m being super extra…boy, am I! So far I have the entire summer of playdates planned, each one complete with snacks and a take home craft for the kids. I’m sharing this here because it feels like such a huge step for me. I’m not a person to take any sort of leadership role, so this is outside of my comfort zone – but I’m excited and I wanted to share that excitement with all of you 🙂

I didn’t post quite as often as I would have liked, but I did change around my colors to match my Instagram “aesthetics” 😆 I also want to say a quick thank you to all of you who congratulated me on my blogiversary! It means so much to me that you are all here with me ♥ A winner has been chosen and contacted for the giveaway.

Make sure you follow me on Bookstagram, too! I post almost every day over there:

I’ve been using a content planner for Instagram for the last few weeks, and it’s helped so much. I’ve been more consistent in my posting over there. There’s space to include planning for up to 3 social media platforms (or even a blog). It was inexpensive and worked with Google Sheets, which was important to me since I don’t have excel and it means I can use it on my phone.

So, if a content planner is something you’re in the market for, I’d recommend this one! It’s super easy to use and has lots of additional features other than just a planner (like metrics trackers). It’s on Etsy from Studio Swain Co.!

How was your July? Did you read any good books?

I hear you SO MUCH about the heat…and the cold as well. We can never win LOL. I’m basically waiting for September (or even October, since in Italy Septembers have been hottish for a while) in order to start living like a normal human being again…

Green hair? OMG LOL. Maybe you can own the thing like you launched the latest trend? Seriously, I feel your pain…alas, I have no suggestion though.

So you were born to be a leader AND a planner, and you didn’t know! 😄 Now I hope the potty-training nightmare can end soon for you…

I really thought I was becoming a summer girly, but no way jose hahah

And yes! GREEN. Luckily, it’s only the little highlighted parts of my hair but it does look like I colored it…very poorly lol

I also hate hot weather! Thankfully we were out of town last weekend when it was supposed to be in the upper 90s. Ugh, I am dreading potty training! Sometimes it is just so hard to fathom the things we have to teach our children!

I’m melting over here haha And yeah…potty training has been wild. Trying to explain to a toddler that they need to poop and the only way poop will come out is to push it while they’re crying and not wanting to push….omg. hahah I’m finally past that stage which is nice but it’s still been one of the most frustrating times. Good luck! If you need someone to vent to about it or need advice, dm me on instagram lol

Haha! Yeah, it’s been 105+ here in Texas for weeks. I’d love a few 90s days. 😃 My potty training advice is probably controversial, but I quickly learned after my first to not rush it, which only seemed to lead to relapses. I know that’s not plausible for many, but since we homeschooled, it worked for us. I would try for about a week and if it wasn’t working, I’d wait a month or so and try again. Lots of praise and rewards and being consistent, yet patient. 😅 Good luck!

I feel you with the heat. The SoCal weather sounds so perfect for me too. It has been extra gross here too, like 90s, but I feel even worse for those people dealing with triple digits! Oof, sorry about the green hair! My grandma used to wash my hair with Dawn to get the chlorine out in general, maybe give that a go? Sorry about the potty training too. What a nightmare. My daughter flat out refused, and did not use the damn toilet until she was 4.5, but that is also just who she is as a person and I am sure your experience will be at least moderately easier? 😂

I always have the best of intentions to “plan” more my content and for a while (maybe in 2021?), I actually did write things down in a calendar and plan out what I’d publish when. It was SO helpful and I liked it but haven’t been doing that for a while and for the last two to three weeks, as Sunday approaches, I’m always scrambling to figure out what to publish on Sunday since those usually take more time/work. Scheduling it probably something I’ll never get quite right. 😉

Also I hear ya’ on the warmth. It was only 70-something this morning when I went on a walk but with that sun on my back, gosh, it felt hot. Congrats on your MOPs leadership role! That’s so cool and yay for you doing something outside your comfort zone.
