The Sunday Post: Busy Writing & Not Reading

Every other week I participate in The Sunday Post hosted by Caffeinated Reviewer. The meme is weekly, every Sunday, but I’ve decided to do it bi-weekly since I don’t usually have that much to share every single week. So, here are some updates from the last 2 weeks! (but 3 weeks this time because I totally forgot to post last week)

The last three weeks have felt super busy, but in a good way! It was filled with things I actually wanted to do. It was hot enough to use our pool – it was the first time I’d swam in it since we moved in. We played D&D. We went to a kid’s birthday party where my son had a blast in the bounce house. I also signed my son up for a multi-sports class with the first 3 weeks of it being soccer. He’s super shy, so I’ve been signing up for community classes the last few months. I’m trying to make up for lost time from the pandemic and it’s really hard, but hopefully he’ll break out of his shell. He does have a neighbor friend that he loves playing with, which is great! It’s just those large groups and strangers that really make him nervous.

I’ve also been dedicating more time to writing. I’m currently working on a fantasy novel, which I think is more of a new adult than young adult. It’s inspired by all of my D&D characters. It’s been so much fun but also challenging to mesh together 4 characters from 3 different worlds into my own world. Oh, yes, it has 4 POV’s which has also been a challenge in itself! But I’m enjoying it. I’m at 14k words so far. I’ve let a handful of people read my first chapter and shared a few snippets of it on my Instagram. I’ve received praise so far which is definitely encouraging! I’ll be sharing more about it through the months as I’m writing but I think it’s going to take me a long time to finish it.

→ Oh, but I have not finished a single book this month. Oops.

I’m currently hitting my goal of 2 posts per week!

SERPENT & DOVE by Shelby Mahurin

I started this book pre-move and then forgot about it. Which is a shame because I was actually really enjoying it, so I wonder if I had just continued if I wouldn’t have ended up in a slump. Either way, after months of thrillers and starting then stopping books, I decided to pick this one up again! I’m so glad I did because I was reminded why I was loving it so much. I’ve heard the last book sucks, but I’m going to stick it out. I just love Lou!

Still working on making time for blog hopping and engaging in the community, but I’m slowly finding some balance! Here are some from the last few weeks that I enjoyed:

How has April been treating you? What have you read so far?
Are you watching anything good?

It’s great you are getting to things you want to do. I have a balance but some things are so time specific like holidays or times to plant the garden or when my daughter’s school breaks are.

Oh yes, sometimes it’s hard to fit everything in! But I’m glad we both have a balance!

I’m trying to write more too, and failing miserably! Between work and book blogging I need to make more time.

Yeah, something always gets pushed to the backburner when we have too many hobbies! hahah I hope you get to write soon!

Yay for getting some writing done. I swear the writer inside of me is so hot and cold. Currently I’m thinking I suck and I should just spend my time enjoying reading as much as I can instead of wasting time writing things that suck. But then I’ll have little moments of inspiration, just no time to write, or when I do sit down to write it’s all gone and I hate everything that I do. As a teacher I’m seeing all the things you mention about our students after the pandemic and the social things that are going to be big deals for them now. But I think you’re doing a good thing for your son for sure! Have a great week!

OH GOSH SAME GIRL. I am always thinking my story sucks but I just keep going. I always have a note in my phone so I can jot down ideas I’ve had throughout the day so I don’t forget by the time I sit down to write. Give that a try! Even if it’s just a specific scene, a short story, one line, it’s fun to get those stories out there!

Well, if you’re writing (especially such a complex story), you can be excused for not reading, right? At least for a while 😉.
    Good luck with your project!

I’m sure your son will come out of his shell more with time. It’s amazing how much the pandemic has affected everyone, I suppose it’s quite an adjustment to go from isolation to seeing people again. And congrats on writing, hopefully it progresses well. I’m impressed you’re trying to tackle so many POV but also a great challenge.

I hope so! I want him to have little friends. It’s so cute watching them play together haha Luckily, 2 of the 4 are the main POVs and the other 2 are kind of side POVs. A nod to my husbands DnD character and my first ever DnD character lol

Sounds like you’re doing well with catching up on doing things with your boy.
And how awesome that you’ve been writing.
Have a great week and happy reading.

I’m so jealous you got to use your pool! I love the water! It’s still too cold where I live, but I’m looking forward to swimming and sailing this summer. Thanks for stopping by my blog!

You do have a busy life! I’m glad you’re writing and can’t wait to see a finished product one day.

I used to love playing D&D back when I was in Uni. I wonder if there is any way of finding people to play with near me, but it’s been so long I think I have forgotten how to play. Charlotte’s Books

Oh I’m sure there is! I don’t know it but the internet has everything! lol

Your story sounds really neat. 🙂 And that’s cool that it was inspired by your D&D characters (I love D&D), also love the idea of writing in multiple POVs.

I’m envious that it’s been warm enough where you are in the world for using a pool! It’s been pretty cold here for the last week or two, definitely not spring-like. It’s good to hear you’ve got such positive feedback on your writing. I hope your son enjoys his new clubs and activities.

It then got too cold to use the pool. Our weather has been super moody here lately lol

Good luck with writing your novel, Molly! How exciting! 😃

Ooh a fantasy book, that’s awesome! Good luck! It might take a while, but I’m sure it’ll be satisfying when it’s done!
