7 Recent Additions to my TBR

Let’s be honest, my reading has been shite lately. I’ve read, on average, two books each month this year (and by on average I mean I’ve read two books each month this year). Last year, I was all over the place. I didn’t even read at all some months. And what I have read has mostly been audiobooks in the Thriller genre. However, I have not been totally out of the loop (thanks to bookstagram) and I have been making a point to read more physical books this month – especially outside of thrillers and murder mysteries. So, today I wanted to share some books I recently added to my tbr (as in I actually bought these) because social  media basically told me I had to have them.

  • THE ZODIAC ACADEMY: THE AWAKENING by Caroline Peckham // Goodreads – I haven’t been able to escape this series for the last couple of months. It seems like everyone and their brother has read this one so, naturally, I picked it up as well.
  • THE ATLAS SIX by Olivie Blake // Goodreads-I think it’s so awesome that this one was an indie book that ended up being picked up by a publisher! Also, everyone seems to love it. Fun fact: I’m not super into the dark academia vibes that the first two books on this list seem to have but I’m going to give them a try! There’s gotta be something good about them, right?
  • THESE HOLLOW VOWS by Lexi Ryan // Goodreads – This one has been floating around my radar for a while. I love the cover but for some reason I was never drawn to it then I saw the cover for the second book coming out this year and thought “who’s that handsome elf?” So, I bought it.

  • SECRETS IN THE MIST by Morgan L. Busse // Goodreads – This was almost just a cover buy but then I read the synopsis and it is right up my alley. People living in the sky because a mysterious mist below – yes, please. Also, it gives me Bioshock Infinite vibes and I’m all here for that.
  • THE GLASS HOTEL by Emily St. John Mandel // Goodreads– My friend over at @thereadroverbookclub on bookstagram absolutely loves Emily St. John Mandel. She sang her praise and told me how she gives little easter eggs to previous novels. Then she proceeded to shine love down on Sea of Tranquility and even though I disliked Station Eleven with a passion (I almost DNF’d it), I decided I’ll give this author another try. So, I bought this one, since there are characters in this that make an appearance in her newest one. Now, I’ve seen mixed reviews on this, so I’ll probably go in with low expectations, and maybe even still give Sea of Tranquility a chance if I end up hating this one, but gosh darn it I will give this book an honest chance.
  • OATHBOUND by Victoria McCombs // Goodreads – I love all things pirates, it’s really that simple. If pirates are in the synopsis, I will buy it.
  • THE WINTER CHARLATAN by Victoria McCombs // Goodreads – The author was kind enough to send me the sequel to this book, but I haven’t read this one yet. I love a good fairytale retelling and this whole series follows a cast of them, like Rumpelstiltskin and Robin Hood. Although, the first two are standalone, the third & fourth book need to be read in order.

That’s it! Nothing fancy about this post, just wanted to chat about some new books 🙂

What books have you added to your TBR recently?
Have you read any of these?

I won’t lie, I also am intrigued by Secrets in the Mist because of the cover! I also agree about being iffy about dark academia- Idk why, everyone else seems to love it! Also full confession, I have yet to read an Emily St. John Mandel book, despite owning several- and even pre-ordering Sea of Tranquility. I think I have a problem? 😂 Hope you end up enjoying these!

The cover for Secrets is just so pretty lol And yeah…idk…I don’t love dark academia vibes but who knows, maybe one of those will hook me. Also thats hilarious. TBH Station Eleven was terrible – at least for me, because I was expecting more end of the world stuff >.<

It sucks when you’re reading is all over the place as you really do feel out of the loop with the bookish world when you’re still reading the book they were talking about 6 months ago because a new book comes up every day you absolutely have to read. I’ve added These Hollow Vows and The Zodiac Academy to my TBR because of the internet as well. Here’s hoping we both enjoy them.
