2022 Releases I’ve Pre-Ordered So Far

A couple of posts back I shared books I’ve already added to my bookshelves. Today I want to share all the books I’ve pre-ordered this year. I’m usually not big into pre-orders, I just buy as the books come out. But for some reason, 2022 is becoming the year of pre-orders for me. I’ve pre-ordered 8 so far, with probably more to add later. Here are all the upcoming releases I have pre-ordered! (How many times can I say pre-order in one intro?)

SAINT by Adrienne Young

As a boy, Elias learned the hard way what happens when you don’t heed the old tales.

Nine years after his lack of superstition got his father killed, he’s grown into a young man of piety, with a deep reverence for the hallowed sea and her fickle favor. As stories of the fisherman’s son who has managed to escape the most deadly of storms spreads from port to port, his devotion to the myths and creeds has given him the reputation of the luckiest bastard to sail the Narrows.  —  READ MORE

When I saw that Adrienne Young was coming out with a prequel to Fable that was all about Saint, I jumped on preordering it! Fable wasn’t my favorite book of all time, but I do enjoy Young’s writing and how she just dives into the story. In Fable, Saint is such a complex character that I’m glad to see he’s going to be getting a whole book to himself. Also, can we just appreciate that cover! I love the nod to the Fable and Namesake with the half-face. Look at the detail in his eye too! Love it.

SPELLS FOR FORGETTING by Adrienne Young

A rural island community steeped in the mystical superstitions of its founders and haunted by an unsolved murder is upended by the return of the suspected killer in this deeply atmospheric novel.

Emery Blackwood’s life was forever changed on the eve of her high school graduation, when the love of her life, August Salt, was accused of murdering her best friend, Lily. Now, she is doing what her teenage self swore she never would: living a quiet existence among the community that fractured her world in two. —  READ MORE

Not going to lie, I knew nothing about this when I preordered it. I simply added to my cart because it’s written by Adrienne Young. That is all. Although, does anyone know if this is the final cover or just a pre-cover? Because it’s not very appealing compared to her other novels.

SON OF THE SALT CHASER by A.S. Thornton

After her desert-transforming wish, Emel follows Saalim to Madinat Almulihi to reclaim all she has lost. But the seaside city is not what she expected. When she is tasked with assisting the palace healer, she is faced daily with the reminder that Saalim—focused only on seeking the revenge of those who killed his family—does not remember her at all.

Cursing the magic that destroyed her love and brought her to an unwelcoming city, Emel regrets her decision to leave her settlement. That is, until she meets Kas. Though inscrutable, he is the first person to help her forget her past, and the pull of finding happiness with him tempts her from the life she wished for with Saalim. — READ MORE

I love supporting fellow bookstagrammers and bloggers and Ali has been a friend of mine for basically my entire bookish journey. I read her first book last year and loved it. The world building was rich and I adored the romance in it. Plus, it ended on such a cliffhanger that I had to get the sequel!

CHILDREN OF RAGNAROK by Cinda Williams Chima

Sweeping adventure, breathtaking twists of fate, and immersive worlds based in Norse mythology are woven into this first volume of the Runestone Saga, from the New York Times bestselling author of the Seven Realms and Shattered Realms series.

Ever since Ragnarok—the great war between the gods and the forces of chaos–the human realm of the Midlands has become a dangerous place, bereft of magic, where most lead lives of desperation. —  READ MORE

This one ended up on my radar simply because of the Norse mythology influence. I’m a sucker for Viking related stories, so this one was no different. The cover isn’t too shabby either!

THE DARKENING by Sunya Mara

In this thrilling and epic YA fantasy debut the only hope for a city trapped in the eye of a cursed storm lies with the daughter of failed revolutionaries and a prince terrified of his throne.

Vesper Vale is the daughter of revolutionaries. Failed revolutionaries. When her mother was caught by the queen’s soldiers, they gave her a choice: death by the hangman’s axe, or death by the Storm that surrounds the city and curses anyone it touches. She chose the Storm. And when the queen’s soldiers—led by a paranoid prince—catch up to Vesper’s father after twelve years on the run, Vesper will do whatever it takes to save him from sharing that fate. — READ MORE

This one just seems so unique. The storm that surrounds their city is very post-apocalyptic-esque but in a fantasy setting so I’m all here for it. This one just jumped out at me one day when I was browsing upcoming releases, but I haven’t seen it shared too much. So, hopefully it’s a great read!

FROM THESE DARK DEPTHS by Vanessa Rasanen

A desperate pirate crew. An abducted captain. Can they save him before he faces the bloodthirsty sirens or will other dangers of the sea claim them first?

The crew of the Siren’s Song race to catch up with the ruthless pirate who has captured their captain. But a sudden storm forces them to choose a perilous route. Desperate to save their captain and retrieve the enchanted dagger, the crew argues over how to survive the waters and what lies beneath.. READ MORE

I have yet to read the first one to this series, but like I said, I love supporting fellow bookstagrammers! I admire Vanessa for the following she has built and all the hard work she puts into her book. I’m looking forward to finally getting to these books! Also, there are pirates and magic in this. You really can’t go wrong with that combination!

CHAOS ZONE by Kate Sheeran Swed

Space travel isn’t really Sloane Tarnish’s thing. She’s a med student, not a planet jumper – though to be honest, nano healing and gene therapy aren’t exactly her thing, either. And she’s definitely not leadership material.

Unfortunately, her outlaw of an uncle didn’t take her lack of skill into consideration when he disappeared. Instead, he decided to saddle Sloane with his questionable crew – a cranky pilot and a mad scientist – plus a ship that only answers to Sloane. — READ MORE

Kate Sheeran Swed has been an indie author I have supported and followed for a long time. She put me on her review list but I am a horrible reader and can never read books when I’m told to. So, this time, I decided to pre-order her book myself to read! She writes really fun sci-fi so I’m excited for this new series of hers! If you’ve never checked her stuff out, I highly recommend it!

THE BUTCHER AND THE WREN by Alaina Urquhart

From the co-host of chart-topping true crime podcast Morbid, a thrilling debut novel told from the dueling perspectives of a notorious serial killer and the medical examiner following where his trail of victims leads.

Something dark is lurking in the Louisiana bayou: a methodical killer with a penchant for medical experimentation is hard at work completing his most harrowing crime yet, taunting the authorities who desperately try to catch up. —  READ MORE

Ok, so, if you know anything about me, you know that for the past two years I have become absolutely obsessed with true crime podcasts. One of my all-time favorites is Morbid. The two hosts are so natural, do so much research, and are clearly passionate about making their podcast the best. When one of the hosts, Alaina, announced she was coming out with a fiction book about a serial killer, I was so excited! Plus, she has some experience in the field as an autopsy tech, which is so fascinating to me.

I think I have 4 preorders this year, maybe 5? I generally preorder books from my favorite authors!

I just know I’ll never read them right when they show up so I usually don’t. But I know it helps the author so I’ve been trying to lately, especially if I know I’ll eventually buy it anyways.

Adrienne Young looks busy! All these books are new to me and I hope you love them!

I’m normally not a pre-order person either. But between an author giveaway, which normally doesn’t lure me in, and then the Barnes & Noble pre-order sale a week or so ago, I got a few too! Some great picks here!

B&N really gettin’ us lately with those sales lol

It’s always interesting to see which books others are preordering. I’ve not heard of any of these books but it’s a great mix of books to be excited about. I’ve only got a couple of books and that’s Shipwrecked by Olivia Dade and Ruby Fever by Ilona Andrews. Both are part of series and from authors I know and I’m sure I’ll wait at least 6 months to read once I get them because that’s how I am.

Ohhh I’ve never heard of those books but I’ll have to look into them!

WOW I haven’t heard of these books but they sound so good?!?!? I met Adrienne Young years back at the Finale launch event and she is so sweet! I keep meaning to pick up her books but haven’t gotten around to it yet.

I hope you found some for your TBR! I haven’t met Young yet! I did see her at a festival but she was there as a guest so I wasn’t about to fangirl lol

I am so excited because a couple of these are new to me and I am definitely checking them out- have them open in new tabs as I type! I had no idea there was going to be a Fable prequel, I really did like the characters in that series so I will likely check that out. Also really excited for her new one. Chaos Zone sounds very good and right up my alley, and the true crime does too! I am genuinely afraid of how many I have pre-ordered tbh. With B&N doing those pre-order sales, well, my bank account hates me is the situation 😂 Hope you love these!

ahh yay! I hope you found a few to add to your TBR! I somehow got away with no B&N preorders but I did go crazy on amazon lol
