The Sunday Post: Tech Issues & More Cleaning

Every other week I participate in The Sunday Post hosted by Caffeinated Reviewer. The meme is weekly, every Sunday, but I’ve decided to do it bi-weekly since I don’t usually have that much to share every single week. So, here are some updates from the last 2 weeks!

PROBLEMS WITH TECHNOLOGY

A quick note before I dive into the post: Last time I posted my Sunday Post I tried to visit all of your Sunday Posts and leave a comment. For some reason, I kept getting errors. It would say there was “something wrong with my website“. I didn’t have time to figure it out that day so I wasn’t able to blog hop at all. I finally had time to try to fix the issue last week and I started by just leaving a test comment on a blog I know I got an error on and I …. didn’t get the error?! I tried another blog, no error. So, looks like it fixed itself? I am so sorry for not visiting all of your posts last time! Technology is moody.

A bonus note: I am still having issues with CommentLuv. Whenever I leave a comment and select to use CommentLuv to link a post, it comes back with “cURL error 22: The requested URL returned error: 403 Forbidden. DOMDocument not found, unable to use locator“. Anyone have any clue what the heck that means? (It’s not happening on every blog with Comment Luv)

→ Ok, now that that’s out of the way I’ll move on. Although, if any of you experience issues commenting on my blog, please let me know! I will add that I have to approve comments before they are published – I get a lot of people thinking their comment didn’t work because of that.

BACK TO LIFE

→ Another 2 weeks of the stay-at-home orders, so not much has changed. I’ve been organzing like a mad woman still. The only area I have left is our garage which is actually kind of on hold. Half of what is in there are donations which I can’t donate because everything is closed! So, my next step is a deep clean of the inside of my home. I’ve been following a combination of The Clean Mama and A Bowl Full of Lemons cleaning routines. If you’re interested, check them out!

→ On that topic, I want to address something I’ve seen around. Let me just get it out there right away. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO USE THIS TIME TO CLEAN, WORK OUT, OR BE PRODUCTIVE IN ANY WAY. I am doing it because it is what makes me feel good. I’ve never gone this long without seeing my parents. I don’t leave the house except to go to the store and get gas. My husband still has to work so I’m home all day with no one to see and no where to go. I feel good when my space is clean and organized, so I’m organizing it. It’s something I would have done without this situation, but since I’m stuck inside, it is happening faster. IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO, DON’T. I’ve noticed this trend of people saying to use this time to become “better” or whatever. And I think that is some BS pressure to put on people. Do. What. Makes. You. Happy. The end.

  •  Phantom Song by Kate Sheeran Swed. I recieved this book from Kate. We are friends on Bookstagram (as a disclaimer). This is book 2 in her trilogy. I really enjoyed the first one and this one seems promising!
  •  The Bone Houses with Emily Lloyd-Jones. I’m still reading this. It’s good, I’m just having a hard time reading anything longer than 200 pages lately lol
  •  Percy Jackson, The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. Still reading this to my 4 month old son. I’m REALLY enjoying it. I want to read it without my son but even though he doesn’t understand what I’m saying, I’ll feel guilty if we don’t read it together. So, this will keep taking me months to get through 😆

How was your week? I hope you did something that makes you happy!

Those cleaning routines are pretty intense if you work. I could never have dinner on the table by 5:30, because I am still not home, and laundry every day, impossible. More power to you! That’s sweet that you are reading Percy Jackson with your son. I wonder if in a few years, you ask him about it, and he remembers stuff. You never know.

I don’t stick to any sort of time table every day (except dinner is usually between 3-4 because that’s when my husband gets home from work). But I am a SAHM so I sort of make my own schedule every day. Just finding what works for you! Personally, routines & cleaning actually make me happy haha So I just like finding new ways to organize my days lol

I started out my “quarantine” by doing a lot of cleaning and organizing, but that has tapered off now that it’s been 5 weeks! I also have a bunch of stuff I need to donate but nowhere to donate to!

    • Reply Molly's Book Nook 04/29/2020 at 8:53 am

SAME. Half my garage is filled with donations and I can’t do anything with any of it lol. But I get what you mean about tapering off. I usually have some motivation for a few days then I take a break, the house gets crazy messy, then I’m motivated again haha

My house is too full with all the kids home to do a deep clean, it will need it when they goes back to school though.

The comment thing seems to happen randomly.. on some blogs the CommentLuv option will work, on others not..and not always the same blog week to week. Usually clearing your browser/cookie cache will help.

Wishing you a great reading week, be well x

My kid is only 4 months old so his messes are pretty limited to where I put him for now hahah Definitely makes deep cleaning easier! I hope you are enjoying your week!

Sounds like a good idea to join every two weeks instead then :). That’s annoying you ran into tech issues when trying to comment, I wonder what caused that, but that’s good it’s gone now. I was just wondering about why my comment on your blog didn’t show that i left on your D&D post, but that explains it if you have to approve them first. That sounds nice how you did so much organizing during the stay at home orders. I definitely think it’s a good thing for people to know that they don’t have to use this time productively. Baking makes me feel happy, so i am doing a lot of that, but I usually go through periods where I bake more and then less again. Sounds like your 3 current reads are good ones so far. Have a great week and stay safe!

Oh yeah, I’ve been doing biweekly for a while now because my life just isn’t that interesting hahah. Oh man, I wish I was a good baker. All I know how to do is open a package of Pilsbury cookie dough and throw it in the oven lol. All the people baking bread and other stuff during iso is making me jealous!

Yeah, I think I am going to spam on some blogs and have taken to checking my own spam more often. I’m also trying to figure out other ways to access blogs without so many overwhelming emails. I want to subscribe to help people’s numbers but the emails. So I’m messing around with Bloglovin and Feedly so far. I haven’t figured them all out yet.

I am usually an big organizer. We moved into a new home last July and I tried to get everything done before Christmas. I thought I would do better with this time to finish those last bits but not so far. I hope I can do them sooner rather than later. It does make me feel good.

    Stay safe and be well!

I use Feedly just because my email would get too crazy. I follow hundreds of blogs haha.

Oh gosh, when we moved into our home I just kind of shoved some boxes into closets and left them so I had PLENTY to go through now lol.

      • Reply Anne - Books of My Heart 04/30/2020 at 7:55 am

That was my mistake! I left the boxes piled up in the room they would go in until unpacked. Seeing them meant I needed to do it. lol I should have hidden them in a closet or the attic!!

Technology can be so hit or miss! I occasionally have trouble commenting on blogs too… I recently had all my comments on WordPress blogs going to spam, luckily Akismet was able to help with it. It’s frustrating though! And yes, you are right about the lockdown and people feeling pressure to “do” a certain thing. This thing is so crazy and stressful, people should not put more pressure on themselves. Totally agree.

Anyway have a safe and happy week! 🙂

Ugh, technology is such a pain sometimes. I’ve had to switch commenting platforms several times because of issues. Hope you’ve had a good week so far!

Glad you’ve been productive! I get the point you’re making about not putting stress on ourselves, but when one has got so much time on their hand, it would be a waste if at least a part of it weren’t spent on doing some chores (I’m not talking about learning a skill or a new language or whatever – just about doing some basic cleaning around!). I’m only working 2 days out of 5 now (this will go on until May 31st), so I’m trying to finally catch up with all the housework I can’t seem to get done normally…but I’m also reading and blogging and commenting and enjoying it!

I hope your family’s doing well! It’s still a mess here in Italy. Smaller shops will only reopen on May 18th, and hairdressers are bound to reopen in June…my hair is crying right now!

I have enjoyed organizing and rearranging my space…but also spending time on books and movies. I agree that we should do what makes us happy.

Technology sucks at times…and I have a recurring issue with my leaping cursor that starts typing elsewhere on the page! I want to scream when that happens, but haven’t been able to fix it yet.

Have a safe and sane…and organized week. Here are my WEEKLY UPDATES

Molly!! It’s been ages, how are you??
I’m sorry that you’re having tech issues 🙁 Hopefully they get fixed soon?
I’m the same as well – I don’t think people need to be productive if they don’t want to be (and they definitely shouldn’t pressure themselves!) – I just feel like I’d go crazy if I do nothing all day. It’s nice to have the freedom to do what I want, with less work (university is struggling to make the transition over to online teaching at the moment!)

I’m definitely doing what I want during most of quarantine – lots of reading! Hubs is paying my daughter to clean so she can have money, and I do have to go to work sometimes (like today 🙁 ). My reading pace has really picked up now that I’ve hit my groove again 🙂 Thanks for sharing, and stay safe!

I’ve been really liking the sense of accomplishment that organizing and other projects has given me too. We had already been working on new doors and trim in the house, and so we finished that just the other day. (Well, actually, I should really say we came to a stopping point—there will still be more to do down the line). And then we moved on to organizing the office. It had been years since we’d sorted through all the stuff in the files and the cabinets—it feels so good to have that done!!

  • Reply vvb 05/03/2020 at 1:31 pm

I’ve been doing organizing mostly to create nice spaces and different “looks” to the rooms for variety.

  • Reply Lindsi 05/05/2020 at 6:45 pm

We have deep cleaned and organized like crazy over the last few weeks! My house is immaculate (until the kids wake up every morning), haha. The Bone Houses is a book I’ve been meaning to read, and will hopefully get to one day soon. The Percy Jackson series is one I’ve read to my littles, too. They got Harry Potter in the womb and shortly after. 😉 I also feel terrible if I read without them, so books we start together tend to take awhile. Sometimes I’ll get so caught up in what I’m reading, that I don’t realize I’ve stopped reading aloud until they ask me why I’m being so quiet, haha.

I really enjoyed The Bone Houses, so I hope you wind up loving it when you finish it! I am currently reading The Lightning Thief for the first time, and adoring it. I’ve deprived myself.
