October Wrap-Up & November TBR

I’m really getting the hang of blogging again! I’ve had several chances to blog hop. I’ve written posts ahead. It’s been great! Although, I have noticed that I can no longer have my attention in two places at once. It’s either Bookstagram OR Blogging. While bookstagram is a nice place to be – I love chatting and watching stories – I just don’t have enough to say over there to post every day. Blogging is just where it’s at for me right now. Does anyone else go through these phases?

→ Anyways, October flew by! I can’t believe it’s already over. I feel like things are starting to get back to normal a bit for us. We’ve had the chance to go out with Emerson for breakfast at a restaurant and even watched football at BWW with him as well. We already started doing our date nights again but it’s been great being able to go out to these things with him. Our library is even open again so I might take him on a little trip there for the first time. I worry about him and his development being isolated for so long. So it’s nice to get things back to some sort of normal.

November is Sci-Fi Month! Hosted by There’s Always Room for One More. I was going to make a whole TBR/plan post but I figured I could just include it in here since it’s taking over my whole month anyways. If you want to participate, it’s a super relaxed month just to celebrate the Sci-Fi genre! Which is a genre I love, but YA fantasy is a dominating beast, man. 😆 Anyways, I’m planning on reading some sci-fi, watching some sci-fi, and maybe even try to play a sci-fi game! We’ll see what I have time for.

Ok I really thought I didn’t read that much this month but then I wrote this and holy moly…I did good?! I read 5 comics/graphic novels, 3 books, and 1 short story. Go me!

I signed up for a subscription to Comixology. There are a lot of comics I want to read but I just don’t want to pay full price for, so I thought this was a good option to catch up and discover some new ones. I’ve only had it for a week, so we’ll see if it’s worth it. So far, I’ve read:

  • 40 SECONDS #1 & #2: This one is interesting! It’s a Comixology original and it’s a sci-fi. Being only 2 issues in, I don’t have much of an opinion other than the story is intriguing and I think the art is really pretty. Hopefully they come out with another issue soon so I can add it to my TBR for Sci-Fi Month!
  • THE WALKING DEAD  Volume 1 & 2 (Issues 1-12): I just caught up with The Walking Dead so I decided to read the comics in between…and it’s kind of struggle. Some issues just have way too much dialogue it gives me a headache. Also, the art changes because they get new artists so that’s a little odd. Volume 1 has better art than volume 2 (volume 2 reminds me too much of a superhero comic). Plus, it’s all in black and white which is a little disappointing. I’m going to continue because I want to compare to the show (it’s already pretty different).
  • LUMBERJANES by Noelle Stevenson Volume 1: This one was cute and odd (a good kind of odd). The art isn’t amazing (I think some of the alternate art at the end of the volume is better). Anyways, so far it’s a good group of characters and some silly adventures. I’m going to continue this one.

  • HORRID by Katrina Leno: This one was a middle of the stack book. I wrote a whole review for it to explain why I liked and disliked it. You can read that here.
  • FORGET ME NOT by Anca Antoci: This is a vampire book that I do not plan to review. It just wasn’t my cup of tea. I think there was a lot of potential but it was just a very long set up to a possibly better second book.
  • THE COMPANION by Katie Alender: I enjoyed this one even if it was a little predictable. I wrote a short review for it in this post if you want to check that out.
  • WE HAVE ALWAYS LIVED IN THE CASTLE by Shirley Jackson: I just don’t think I am a Jackson fan. This is the second book I’ve read by her and I didn’t enjoy it. At least they were short. You can read my full review here.

This is my November TBR. I’m sure I’ll add or subtract to it. I’m also going to continue with some comics but I just read what I’m in the mood for when it comes to those. So, yeah, this is basically just a tentative TBR.

How was your October? What did you do for Halloween (if you celebrate)? What did you read? Any fun plans for November? Tell me anything!

I don’t do Instagram so I am just a blogger. October went faster than I expected. The weather was great here so I was trying to do a bunch of outside projects. It’s turning cooler now so then I’ll gradually shift to more inside projects. We still stay home as cases are going up a lot everywhere. I wouldn’t worry but so many still don’t wear masks even when there is a mandate. I need to pay more attention to Scifi. I normally love it. I may need to update my November plan to include some. Have a lovely week and happy reading Molly.

Yeah, for the most part people wear masks where I am. I’ve only noticed a few people here and there not wearing one. One girl forgot her mask going to the store and held her shirt over her face the whole time lol So, yeah, mostly people are following that guideline. But it is nice to do some things again. Even our movie theaters are open (but there’s nothing good out lol). Home projects are fun! I’m always trying to find something new to upgrade or just organize in our house. I like refreshing things 🙂 Happy reading!

This is a great list and I have added quite a few to my list for SciFi November (it’s here, it’s here!)…You are going to love Dune! I know you already have a TBR pile BUT do you think you could add one more? A recent read that I thought was pretty awesome is “The Code: If your AI loses its mind, can it take meds?” by Peter McAllister. In the future, humanity is using nano-bots to mine for resources on the dark side of the moon. An AI in charge of the operation goes haywire and a top engineer is sent to fix things before it causes the destruction of the moon, and the world! I was pretty interested in this book by the title alone, but once I started reading I basically finished it in one sitting. It feels really well thought out and although the themes are futuristic, it is not hard to believe that something like this could actually happen! It is full of edge of your seat suspense, moments of levity and lots of thoughtfulness. Definitely a must read! You can read more about it here – https://www.petermcallisterauthor.com/
If you do check it out I would love to hear your opinion! You’ve got good taste!

It sounds like you had a good month! I’m glad you got to go out and do some fun things, and that things are getting a bit more back to normal.
I thought about reading the Walking Dead comics a while ago, as I got a bit bored with the show around season 4 and stopped watching. But it does sound weird with the art styles constantly changing! Maybe I’ll get around to reading it someday, or I might just try and continue with the show.
I hope you have a great November anyway! And thanks for mentioning my post!

The show is good & bad lol Some seasons are better than others. Like I really hated season 9 (one of the most boring to me) but then season 10 was a bit better. It all depends. My favorite bad guy is Negan and he doesn’t come in till season 6 so I would recommend continuing for him lol

Thank you for the mention! You have a lot of good books on your list, I am slowly working my way through the Lumberjanes series, so slowly I think I’ll need to go back to the start but I did enjoy it.

haha that’s what happened with me and the Saga books. I read the first 3 but I Don’t remember and will probably have to go back >.<

Good luck with your TBR! Dune is a book that I really want to read, but the size of it is really intimidating to me 😅

    • Reply Molly's Book Nook 11/16/2020 at 5:30 am

It really is but the good news is the movie doesn’t come out for a while lol I’m probably going to read a bit at a time, unless it’s real good and I end up binging it.

Addie LaRue is definitely one I want to get to before the end of the year!

I hope you enjoy it if you get to it! Happy reading 🙂

I think I definitely go through the blogging or bookstagram phase! I’ve been working on trying to find the perfect balance but it’s kind of difficult? I don’t know honestly. You’ve got some good books on your TBR for this month – I hope you’ll enjoy them!

    • Reply Molly's Book Nook 11/16/2020 at 5:29 am

It is difficult! Even after posting this, I didn’t read or write anything new at all! Oops! Happy reading 🙂

October indeed flew by! Looks like you had a great reading month. I’m also (probably) reading Addie Larue in November and I’m excited about it!

I hope you enjoy it if you get to it! I have yet to read anything this month lol

Congrats on finding your blogging groove again! I can also only dedicate my attention to one platform for content creation, and I don’t like the amount of work against the algorithm IG is, so I just focus on my blog.

I am currently reading The Goddess in the Machine and loving it! Happy reading!

    • Reply Molly's Book Nook 11/16/2020 at 5:20 am

aaaaand right after this I didn’t post for over a week. Funny how that happens lol. OMG YES the stupid algorithm. And now they’ve blocked all recent posts in the hashtags “Temporarily” (hopefully). Its very frustrating. I’m glad you are enjoying/enjoyed The Goddess in the Machine! I started it and it was interesting, I’m just in a horrible slump so I haven’t finished it. Ugh.

Ooh Addie LaRue’s on my list too. I totally get the same feeling with bookstagram vs blogging. I still prefer blogging so bookstagram becomes more tiresome for me and I really see it just as promo for my blog

    • Reply Molly's Book Nook 11/16/2020 at 5:15 am

I don’t even advertise my blog on my instagram lol I have my link in my bio but I feel like no one actually clicks it >.<

Yeah Instagram makes it so difficult to link back
