It’s My Blogiversary: Reflection & Giveaway

TODAY IS MY BLOGIVERSARY!

June 15th, 2015, I published my first blog post. 8 years ago.

It was about the Twilight Storytellers finalists. Do you remember that? When the illustrated guide came out and they held a contest for female filmmakers to submit their short film and then we voted on it? It’s been 8 years since that! I’ve since privated the post because it was kind of a pointless one. I literally just explained what the contest was and then shared the link to watch all the films. I added no commentary, didn’t even include which was my favorite (tbh, I forget if I even watched all of them 😆 ) What was the point? Who knows.

A lot has changed since then from what I blog about, to what I even read. I’ve gone through times of long breaks (some more than a year long) and went through various weekly memes. Like Movies & More Monday, and a whole series of blog help posts. I also used to review so many books. What a novelty, reviewing books on my book blog. How times have changed 😆

But really, in all seriousness, since I started my blog I opened and closed a bookish shop, which included a book club/box subscription, I bought my first home, had a son, sold that home, bought another one, and all the other little things that happen in between the big milestones. Even my reading tastes have changed from almost exclusively YA, to now more fantasy and thrillers. I’ve also begun writing my first novel.

Through all of that, I’ve stuck with my blog. It’s like a marriage, in sickness and in health, for richer or poorer. My blog isn’t the mega-popular blog I thought it would be when I started, but I’m okay with that. It’s my little space on the internet that I always return to. I always love coming back here, even after a long break, just to vent to you guys about things that are happening in my life or the books I’m reading – because no matter how long I go without posting, or how little I read, y’all are still here to chat about anything.

That’s the best part of blogging – the community. So, thank you to all of you who have stuck around, dealing with my sporadic posting schedule and random long breaks, and the changes that have happened over the years. And thank you to those of you who are new here, giving my little space a chance.

It truly has meant and continues to mean so much to me as a girl, and now stay-at-home-mom with very few “real life” friends who understand this hobby.

I could make this post about books I’ve loved over the years, or things that have changed. Instead, I decided to just say thank you with a giveaway! I haven’t held a giveaway on my blog in years (I think since I started it), so this is long overdue. It’s a small gesture of my thanks. I reached seven years blogging this year – I post a lot less than I used to, and I definitely review fewer books, although that’s probably because I’m reading less these days!

I’m reading so much less! It was crazy looking back at all the reviews I used to post because I was like “wow, how did I have so much time to read?!” Granted, that was pre-having a kid hahah

      • Reply Angela 07/15/2023 at 10:11 am

Yes, definitely read much more before having my son, too! Congrats on 8 years blogging! Glad to see your posts back in my inbox!

LOL, your first post story is funny. But then again, I suppose most of us didn’t exactly know what we were doing when we started (I may be one of the few exceptions, but only because I was already…ahem…of mature age when I started, and that’s probably the reason why my blog has barely changed over the years as well. Almost 13 years!!!).

Yes to all that. Our blog is our breathing space, and the one where we connect with the rest of the world and make the friends we don’t have in real life. Long live blogs! Here’s to your next 8 years of blogging…and counting 😉 Also, thank you so much for the givvy!

I had no idea hahah I did have a bookstagram before blogging, so I had that down, but here, I was lost lol

I use to blog a lot and post my book reviews there. At some point, sharing the books that I have already read encourages me to read more and share what I thought on the certain book, so people could read it. oh how I miss those time

Right? Real life just gets in the way of my bookish life lol

Happy Blogiversary! 8 years is amazing, and such an accomplishment!
I think I started blogging nearly 9 years ago next month, but I’m now onto my third blog, so I’m not sure that would count as a blogiversary! It’s definitely interesting to look back and think how life has changed in that time though, and how the sorts of things I’m posting about has changed.

That’s awesome, though! Even if you changed blogs, that’s still a long time. And CHANGING blogs seems so daunting. I’ve been wanting to change my blog name for a while but I’m scared to. I want to make it more “author” friendly since I’m writing. But will people realize who I am?! hahah IDK.

Congratulations!! Eight years is quite an accomplishment! Doesn’t it seem bananas that we have all been around so long?! I agree with you that when I was a SAHM blogging was like, my refuge heh. Where I could talk to other grown ups who enjoyed the same things I did, it saved me sometimes I swear. Now, even though I am working and in school and insanely busy, it is STILL that safe space, even if I don’t get to do it as much as I like! Hoping for many more years to come for your blog, and so glad that our blogs gave us the chance to connect! ♥♥

Thank you! and yes..I feel old hahah I don’t even recognize author names anymore. I feel so behind with the times, man lol

Congratulations on eight years of blogging! That’s a great accomplishment. Your comment about reviewing a lot more books in the past made me laugh. That’s probably the biggest thing that has changed about my blogging, too. I used to review EVERYTHING I read, even if it meant posting three reviews a day to stay caught up. These days, I’m a huge review slacker and that’s okay! You have to do what works for you.

YAY! Happy 8 years! My blogging lefe has changed so much over the last 10 years. I post a lot less now, but I think I’m more myself. Does that make sense? 🙂

    • Reply Molly's Book Nook 07/21/2023 at 4:58 pm

Thank you! And yes! That totally makes sense. It’s easy to fall into the trends and trying to force a personality in the online world!

8 YEARS, congratulations on this incredible accomplishment, yay! I’m also a blogging dinosaur, in my 8th year of blogging, just as well. It’s so, so wonderful to read about how, through it all, all the changes in your life, blogging has stayed a constant. Even with the breaks, you always come back to it. That’s how I feel about my little corner of the internet, as well. Even if things have changed and I don’t even feel the same way as I used to, it’s still a beautiful place we love. <3 Congratulations again and here's to many, many more years of blogging!! <3

Congrats to 8 years for you as well! You were one of the earlier blogs I followed so I’m so glad we’re still here. Us geriatric folks hahah But yes, it’s nice to have this little space no matter what life throws at you!

  • Reply Rissi JC 07/25/2023 at 9:46 am

CONGRATS, Molly! This is all amazing. I so enjoyed reading this post and you sharing all the different things you’ve done with this space through the years. Same goes for me. I know they also say stick with “one” thing but I kind of write about this and that, some of which is unusual, but hey, it’s what works so we write about the things that interest us. 🙂 Wishing you another amazing eight years here. 🙂

I couldn’t even tell you what my “niche” is when it comes to books because I’m all over the place hahah and I like sharing about movies and shows, I want to start doing that again (even though they were some of my least read posts lol)
