5 Recent TV Show Binges

One of my favorite things about blogging is that I can share all the shows/movies I am watching & discover new ones! It’s been forever since I’ve done a post like this so I’m just going to dive right in. This doesn’t include all of the shows I’ve watched over the last year, just some of the more recent ones I’ve been watching! Let me know if you’ve seen them or want to see them 🙂

IN THE DARK

A young, blind woman tries to solve her friend’s murder.

This was one of those shows my husband and I put on because we got sick of browsing Netflix and it was just there – but we were pleasantly surprised! I really enjoyed it and I am so glad it got renewed for a season 2! It has a bit of humor and the mystery is so good I actually didn’t put it together until close to the end of the season. And there’s a romance if that’s what you’re looking for 😉

*Watch season 1 on Netflix

DESIGNATED SURVIVOR

A low-level Cabinet member becomes President of the United States after a catastrophic attack kills everyone above him in the line of succession.

Honestly, this was another show we put on because we were sick of browsing – otherwise I don’t think I ever would have tried it. It has a House of Cards feel (but House of Cards is a bit better). I really enjoyed the first 2 seasons, which were on ABC, then Netflix picked it up for season 3. To be frank, it went way downhill, when it went on Netflix. I feel like they tried to make it way more like Scandal (the previous seasons had ZERO sex scenes, but once it was on Netflix, S3E1 had at least 3). There’s nothing wrong with the show Scandal, I love that show, but Netflix kind of swung a totally different direction than the show I originally loved. I wasn’t as into the storyline and some of my favorite characters were written off the show.

*Watching season 1-3 on Netflix

EUPHORIA

Euphoria follows a group of high school students as they navigate drugs, sex, identity, trauma, social media, love, and friendship.

I don’t know the rating of this show, but if you think it’s okay for kids to watch because it follows teenagers, think twice! Seriously, I don’t think I’ve seen so many pictures & close-ups of male genitalia before. It’s a weird but intriguing show that I don’t really know how to review without just telling you to watch it yourself if you’re at all interested. I mean, it already got renewed for a season 2, so that says something about its popularity.

*Watch season 1 on HBO (side note: it’s not a completed show yet, it’s on every Sunday with 2 episodes left as of posting this)

This is the poster for season 1, I couldn’t find one for season 3

SLASHER: SOLSTICE

Kit Jennings is murdered by someone using a “Druid” costume in front of an apartment complex during the summer solstice and the neighbors don’t help him. Exactly one year later, a person using the same costume emerges and starts murdering every person who carries any kind of complicity in his murder.

Meh. So this is season 3 of Slasher but each season is it’s own entity, so you don’t have to watch the previous seasons to understand. This one was my least favorite. Every character felt very stereotypical & for a show that follows so many characters, that’s not a great thing. I will say that the who dunnit was someone I wasn’t expecting at all, but if you want to watch any Slasher season, I recommend season 2 – it’s much better!

*Watch seasons 1-3 on Netflix

CHERNOBYL

In April 1986, an explosion at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics becomes one of the world’s worst man-made catastrophes.

This was such a great miniseries! It takes place after the explosion and follows the scientists who try to find out what actually happened. It’s fictionalized to an extent, but I thought it was an amazing look at what happened and taught me a lot too. There was a podcast that went along with each episode that I haven’t had a chance to listen to yet, but I heard that was also amazing. I highly recommend this show, especially if your a history buff.

As I said, these aren’t all the shows I’ve watched recently, just a few that I thought were worth mentioning. Have you seen them? Thoughts? Any shows you recommend I give a try?

I know my mom is a big fan of Designated Survivor. I haven’t seen much of it, but what I have seen I liked. 🙂

It’s pretty good (until Netflix) hahah. We binge watched the 3 seasons in a very short period of time, probably like a week?

I’ve been wanting to watch Chernobyl and Euphoria! Designated Survivor was one that intrigued me (mostly because of Keifer Sutherland) when it was in ABC but I never saw it.

Designated Survivor looks so good! Although interesting to hear how it changed once it went on Netflix..

Gah I want to watch Chernobyl so desperately, I really wish I had HBO! I always see the ads for In the Dark when I watch The 100 (ha) and it DOES look good so I am excited that you liked it, I am definitely going to check it out! Euphoria sounds like I might like it too, but again, HBO.

Everyone has been raving about Chernobyl lately! Although I think it’s crazy how many people are now visiting the site since the release of the show. I’ve been meaning to watch Euphoria!

    • Reply Molly's Book Nook 07/20/2019 at 1:06 pm

Yeah! Didn’t they even come out with a statement telling people to please respect the site?!

I’ve heard so much hype on Chernobyl! Also Designated Survivor, it’s so popular that it got a k-drama remake 😀 I can’t wait to give both a try.

I didn’t know that about Designated Survivor! That’s cool!

I’m in the middle of Designated Survivor Season 3, and I totally agree. This season just isn’t very good.

Euphoria was nuts. I really want to watch in the dark but Canada….can’t find it lol

    • Reply Molly's Book Nook 08/16/2019 at 8:35 am

We finished Euphoria last week and WTF. It’s like they KNEW it was being renewed before even finishing the show! And awwww that’s unfortunate! Maybe they’ll add it in the future.
