Top Ten Tuesday: 7 Indie Authors You Should Follow On Bookstagram (& their books)

I used to participate in Top Ten Tuesday when I first started blogging and it was a wonderful way to meet fellow bloggers! I thought with coming back from a hiatus, and a bit of a lack of inspiration on my part, participating again would be a great idea. So, every Tuesday (if the topic interests me) I’ll be sharing a Top Ten Tuesday post. Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Artsy Reader Girl! Make sure to check out her page explaining everything you need to know, including future topics.

This week’s Top Ten Tuesday is all about INDIE BOOKS! I like to try to read as many as I can, or at least support them in other ways, so this was an easier post for me. I decided to go just a slightly different route and share with you some recent (and not so recent to me) authors that I absolutely love to follow on bookstagram! Each of these authors share tips, tricks, inside looks, the ups, the downs, and so much more. I hope with this list you might find a book that sounds interesting to you, but also some great people to grace your social media feeds. Enjoy!

ON THESE BLACK SANDS by Vanessa Rasanen [Goodreads] – Vanessa is one of my earliest friends on bookstagram and to have been able to watch her grow through the years is just amazing. If you are looking for an indie author that does all the things right, she’s your girl. The third book in her pirate trilogy comes out this year, so definitely jump on it ASAP.

THE CRIMSON SCAR by Hannah Penfold [Goodreads] – Hannah is a friend from the writer’s Discord I was in (like many on this list) and I’m so happy to have watched her grow from writing sprints together on that Discord to now a fully self-published author! I love following her because her reels are always on point, and I enjoy watching her hustle and share her work with the world. If you’re looking for funny reels and a book about vampires, follow her on Instagram!

THIS CURSED LINE by Morgan Hubbard [Goodreads] – Morgan Hubbard is newer to me, but I already love following her. She shares super relatable content, and her book sounds amazing. So, yeah, just follow her for some great content about writing and reading, and the work she puts into sharing her love of her craft and her book!

THE THIEF’S RELIC by Angela Knotts Morse [Goodreads] – I am lucky enough to be on Angela’s street team for her books! Though, I will admit I have not read the first one yet (it is on my TBR this month). With that said, Angela was one of the first writer friends I made via a writer’s Discord group I was in, and she is such a lovely person. If you want some realness in terms of how hard it is to actually write, how long it takes, and how hard it is to market, she shares all of her experiences. It’s hard to put yourself out there, even harder when you share any inkling of a failure. But I can’t wait to get to her book!

THE REALM OF OBLIVION by Marae Good [Goodreads] – Marae is also a writer that I met through the Discord group, and she is a breath of fresh air. Her reels will make you laugh, and her support will be there if you ever need it.

ONCE I KNEW by Victoria Lynn [Goodreads] – Victoria Lynn writes clean Christian fiction and while that is not a genre I typically gravitate towards, I have to admire someone who is so unapologetic in her beliefs. Her faith is prevalent throughout her social media, and in her book (I have not read it, but it is advertised as such). So, if that is something you’re looking for, you should definitely check out her Instagram and her book!

OATHBOUND by Victoria McCombs [Goodreads] – Technically, Oathbound is not a self-published novel, but Victoria does have other books that she has self-published. With that said, Oathbound is one that I’m super excited to read! It has pirates…I mean, that’s enough for me to want to read it. Plus, if you follow Victoria on Instagram, you get total transparency from her which I love. I love seeing the real side of publishing a book, and not just the highlights.

Do you have any favorite indie authors or books?
Do you follow any of the authors on social media?

I love the way you did this (with their social media). I haven’t read any of these but I’ll definitely check them out. Here’s my list:

What a cool way to promote them! The only authors I tend to follow on social media are friends of mine, but maybe that should change.

Totally get that! Some of these gals are friends (via social media) as well! I like to follow authors of books I’m interested in, or like their content.

How funny – Tell Me Something Tuesday is having the same theme today! (OK, April is Indie Month, but the very same prompt in the very same day? 😂). But you put a twist on it with your Instagram perspective!

I love indie/self pub authors. Sometimes traditional publishers reject stuff that doesn’t fit into a certain mold, but some authors make a conscious decision to go indie, and I admire their bravery.

That is funny! Guess that means even more love for indie authors today!

I love following indies socials, they’ve always got such creative ways of showing off their work!

I agree! And it’s a great source of inspiration if you want to market your own book!

I think I’ve seen Victoria’s and Vanessa’s make the rounds on Instagram, but the rest of these I think are unfamiliar to me! But it’s always awesome to discover an indie or self published author/book to love and show it a little extra support. 🙂

Those two are the most popular on this list. Most of the others are new authors that just published in the last year!

Oooo yes, thanks for sharing this. I really need to get back onto Bookstagram. I’m hoping after the wedding I can dive in. I miss posting on there.

I took a year long hiatus! In fact, I do it often lol The community is easy to get back into, it’s the algorithm that really sucks!

Vanessa’s book is on my TBR pile! I was hoping to go to Storybound Fest this year and meet her, but sadly the event was cancelled due to low ticket sales. It’s so hard to try to meet Indie authors if you’re not local to them. Sigh….

Nice looking picks! Lots of new to me ones other than Vanessa!

    Thanks for visiting my TTT!

Aw that’s such a bummer! I wish I could travel for book festivals. I live in an area that does have a lot but they’re usually for the more popular ones. It would be awesome to meet some indie authors too!

Oh my god, these covers are all so gorgeous. I haven’t heard of any of these authors, but definitely going to look them up now!

Oh I love how so many of these have a personal connection for you. Sometimes social media can seem so overwhelming, but then there are times when it feels like a close friend group, as well. Thanks for sharing these!

    • Reply Molly's Book Nook 04/14/2023 at 5:43 am

Oh yes! I definitely don’t have a close friend group (wish I did lol), but I am happy to have made so many wonderful friends/met so many great people!

Aw this is a fun twist on the topic! I will have to visit their instagrams! I think they are all new to me, actually!

I’m not familiar with any of these authors but the covers are beautiful! And I love that you shared their social media profiles.
