My Rating: 5 Stars

My husband and I just binged watched season one the other day and I couldn’t not share this with you guys. This show is fantastic.

For starters, the plot is great, you definitely won’t be disappointed. It stays at a steady pace that keeps you guessing. In fact, even by the end of it, it leaves you with so many questions (hello, season 2!?) But don’t worry, you’ll leave this season feeling satisfied.

Here is the synopsis from IMDB:

When a young boy disappears, his mother, a sheriff, and his friends must confront terrifying forces in order to get him back.

It doesn’t give much away, but that is a good thing — and I won’t be spoiling it for any of you either since the best thing about the plot is the mystery of it. Really, you should go in completely blind in terms of plot to fully enjoy it.

One of my favorite things about this show is the time period it is set in. The whole season takes place in the 80’s and mainly follows a group of young boys (about 12 years-old) that go on the hunt for their missing friend. It’s complete with 80’s music, telephones, outfits, movie posters — they really did a great job immersing you into the decade. Also, it’s riddled with nostalgia from Tolkien to Star Wars that I’m sure all of you will enjoy.

Another great thing about this series is the characters themselves, especially the group of friends that it focuses on. Even though they’re young, they’re able to grab you in. You care about them and believe their actions. The group displays a heartwarming theme of friendship and sticking up for one another. Although, the characters wouldn’t have been able to come to life if it wasn’t for the great performances from the actors. I was really impressed with the young boys (Wolfhard, Matarazzo, McLaughlin).

Overall, this is a great blend of science fiction and horror that will keep you guessing and entertained until the end. If you love Speilberg and want to watch a show that is a nod to some of his earlier works, this is the perfect show for you.

I mean, just look at that poster.

This was good. I loved that they were playing D&D (lol) and kept referencing it. It was 80’s referential without going overboard. Although I have to say a couple of the kids irritated me from time to time- but a minor quibble. I thought Winona Ryder did a good job, and it was nice to see the sheriff be pretty competent after the beginning made it look like he might be a drunk idiot. I definitely enjoyed it.

Yeah, I think they did a good job at that. Winona Ryder did do a good job! & that is true, they did make the sheriff look like he wasn’t going to give a crap in the beginning. I hope they bring it back for season 2

I have been so curious about this show but this is the first review I’ve seen! I definitely think I’m going to have to watch this when I finish Breaking Bad!
