Top Ten Tuesday: 6 Books From KU I Immediately Downloaded

I used to participate in Top Ten Tuesday when I first started blogging and it was a wonderful way to meet fellow bloggers! I thought with coming back from a hiatus, and a bit of a lack of inspiration on my part, participating again would be a great idea. So, every Tuesday (if the topic interests me) I’ll be sharing a Top Ten Tuesday post. Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Artsy Reader Girl! Make sure to check out her page explaining everything you need to know, including future topics.

This week’s topic is about what books are on your Spring TBR, but being the mood reader I am, I don’t really have a TBR. I did, however, recently subscribe to Kindle Unlimited for the 500th time thanks to all the indie and smutty books I’ve seen on booktok and bookstagram. I then proceeded to download way too many all at once because I have no chill. Here are six of them! Don’t judge me 😆

Note: I’m not going to go into detail on why I picked each one, they all just sound interesting to me. Also, I don’t think they all contain smut. But don’t quote me on that.

THE NEVER KING by Nikki St. Crowe
Goodreads

The stories were all wrong — Hook was never the villain.
For two centuries, all of the Darling women have disappeared on their 18th birthday. Sometimes they’re gone for only a day, some a week or a month. But they always return broken. Now, on the afternoon of my 18th birthday, my mother is running around the house making sure all the windows are barred and the doors locked. But it’s pointless. Because when night falls, he comes for me. And this time, the Never King and the Lost Boys aren’t willing to let me go.

ESCAPING ELEVEN by Jerri Chisholm
Goodreads

In Compound Eleven, the hierarchy of the floors is everything. My name is Eve Hamilton, and on my floor, we fight.
Which at least is better than the bottom floor, where they toil away in misery. Only the top floor has any ease in this harsh world; they rule from their gilded offices. Because four generations ago, Earth was rendered uninhabitable—the sun too hot, the land too barren. Those who remained were forced underground. While not a perfect life down here, I’ve learned to survive as a fighter. Except my latest match is different. Instead of someone from the circuit, my opponent is a mysterious boy from the top floor. And the look in his eyes tells me he’s different… maybe even kind. Right before he kicks my ass.
Still, there’s something about him—something that says he could be my salvation… or my undoing. Because I’m no longer content to just survive in Eleven. Today, I’m ready to fight for more than my next meal: I’m fighting for my freedom. And this boy may just be the edge I’ve been waiting on.

COUNTERPART by Ella Pyne
Goodreads

Leda doesn’t want to be sacrificed, but there’s no escaping a fate written in stone…
In the kingdom of Viridiana, a king makes a deal with the gods; royal blood in exchange for power and prosperity. Every year, one of his children must sacrifice another to prove their loyalty to the throne and to the gods. Leda Locarno, bastard daughter of the king, has known her fate from the beginning. As death at the hands of her sister looms, she is desperate to escape the palace that is her prison. But Leda knows she has no talent for tricking fate. Pyrrhus, the mysterious young tutor to the royal court, has other ideas. He may be frustratingly reserved and more compelling than he has any right to be, but he is suddenly everywhere Leda goes, and he seems to know something she doesn’t. As Leda becomes further embroiled in the dark machinations of her father’s court, she will learn the true price she must pay for her freedom.
Blood will be spilled… but in the end, it won’t just be Leda’s.

BROKEN BONDS by J. Bree
Goodreads

After the death of my mother and her Bonded, I was relieved to find my own Bonds. I was sure everything would be okay if I had them. It wasn’t. The fate of our people is in my hands and I know we’re better off if I’m alone. After five years on the run, I’m caught and dragged back to face the men I ran away from. I thought I was doing the right thing. Now, I’m not so sure.
North, Nox, Gryphon, Atlas, and Gabe may never forgive me but one thing is for sure.
I won’t ever forgive myself.

THE FINE PRINT by Lauren Asher
Goodreads

Rowan
I’m in the business of creating fairy tales. Theme parks. Production companies. Five-star hotels. Everything could be all mine if I renovated Dreamland. My initial idea of hiring Zahra was good in theory, but then I kissed her. Things spiraled out of control once I texted her using an alias. By the time I realized where I went wrong, it was too late. People like me don’t get happy endings. Not when we’re destined to ruin them.
Zahra
After submitting a drunk proposal criticizing Dreamland’s most expensive ride, I should have been fired. Instead, Rowan Kane offered me a dream job. The catch? I had to work for the most difficult boss I’d ever met. Rowan was rude and completely off-limits, but my heart didn’t care. At least not until I discovered his secret. It was time to teach the billionaire that money couldn’t fix everything. Especially not us.

CITY OF GODS AND MONSTERS by Kayla Edwards
Goodreads

Welcome to the city of Angelthene. We hope you survive.
Loren Calla has only ever been ordinary. As a human struggling to survive in a city that caters to the needs of vampires, werewolves, witches, and other supernatural creatures, she always assumed her life would remain simple, predictable, and as safe as her world would allow.
Until she barely escapes abduction at the hands of Darkslayers—supernatural bounty hunters that possess the Sight, a magical tracking ability that allows them to see a person’s aura—and one of her friends is taken in her place. The abductors are demanding a ransom: Loren’s life in exchange for her friend’s safe return. Loren will do whatever it takes to get her friend back—even if it means accepting help from Darien Cassel, the leader of the Seven Devils, the most feared Darkslaying circle in the city.
Darien specializes in tracking down demons and criminals that are better off dead than alive, so when he takes a job to track down Loren and finds out she is human—and couldn’t hurt a fly if her life depended on it—he decides to protect her instead of turn her in for a reward. As much as Loren doesn’t want to admit it, Darien is her best and only chance at finding her friend alive, if she can somehow manage to get along with him—and not fall head-over-heels in love with him in the process, which is far easier said than done.
When more women start disappearing, and some of them slowly turn up dead, Loren and Darien’s search for answers takes them deep into Angelthene’s corrupt underbelly, where they discover a dark secret that threatens to unravel their world. And when tragedy strikes, Loren learns that love can make an ordinary person do extraordinary things.

Have you read any of these?

What are some KU books I should read?

OMG IT IS SO GOOD. I’m already on book three of that series. I’m obsessed lol

  • Reply anovelglimpse 03/14/2023 at 10:01 am

I’ve been curious about The Fine Print. I haven’t downloaded it yet like you had, but I guess I should. I hope you love all of these.

    • Reply Molly's Book Nook 03/16/2023 at 7:13 pm

I’ve seen it everywhere so I hope to get to it soon!

The amount of books off of Kindle Unlimited I need in my life is WILD. The Fine Print and City of Gods and Monsters are two I’ve been eyeing for some time now. You’ll have to let me know how they turn out.

If you want to see what’s on my spring TBR, here’s my TTT

    • Reply Molly's Book Nook 03/16/2023 at 7:12 pm

RIGHT?! There are so many! I remember back in the day there was never anything I want to read and now I’m like WAIT I’ve SEEN this book everywhere! I need it! haha

  • Reply Leslie 03/14/2023 at 1:54 pm

I make these lists and lots of arcs bc I’m such a mood reader. I hardly ever complete them but I know, I will get the arcs read. haha. The Fine Print has been one I’ve seen all over booktok!!

    • Reply Molly's Book Nook 03/16/2023 at 7:12 pm

Oh if I get an arc I will specifically NOT want to read it hahah That’s why I don’t really accept or seek out review copies anymore

      • Reply Leslie 03/20/2023 at 3:10 pm

Ahh, I see how that can happen! Luckily, I don’t typically have that problem, unless I see a lot of bad reviews first.

  • Reply Leah's Books 03/14/2023 at 2:12 pm

Wow, these all sound awesome! Looks like a subscription to KU is going to be in my future sooner rather than later. I hope you enjoy them!

    • Reply Molly's Book Nook 03/16/2023 at 7:11 pm

Doooo it! A lot of indie authors use it, so it’s nice to support them at a good price! They get paid by the pages read, though. So if you don’t actually read the books you download (like I am notorious for doing), then it’s not super helpful to them hahah I’m working on it.

      • Reply Leah's Books 03/16/2023 at 7:18 pm

Yeah, I’m a bit overwhelmed with ARCs right now, so I want to make sure I wait until I have the time to read them. But I’m definitely planning to give it a try.

  • Reply 1girl2manybooks 03/14/2023 at 3:29 pm

Oh I haven’t tried any of these! I do love a good KU binge though

    • Reply Molly's Book Nook 03/16/2023 at 7:11 pm

OH I AM ON A BINGE RIGHT NOW. I’m already on book 3 of Vicious Lost Boys lol

  • Reply WendyW 03/14/2023 at 4:45 pm

KU is awesome! I don’t use it as much as I should, but I have found some fantastic books and authors through it.

    • Reply Molly's Book Nook 03/16/2023 at 7:10 pm

That’s wonderful! I always sign up for it but never read anything. I’m trying to actually use it this time lol

  • Reply Rissi JC 03/14/2023 at 5:44 pm

I don’t think I’ve ever used KU. I know lots of readers love it. However since I don’t care for Kindle/tablet reading, I don’t think I’m probably missing much. 😉 Hope you enjoy any that you find and read!! It’s always fun to discover new reads, and hey, sometimes we all succumb to the popularity pressure. Thanks for visiting my site today!

    • Reply Molly's Book Nook 03/16/2023 at 7:10 pm

I used to not like it much, but as my eyes get worse, I love it because I can make the font HUGE hahah

  • Reply Susan 03/14/2023 at 9:44 pm

Ha ha. I haven’t signed up for KU yet because it just doesn’t seem to have many books I’m actually interested in reading. I’m glad it’s working for you, though, and I hope you enjoy all these!

    Happy TTT!

There’s definitely a type of book that tends to be on it!

  • Reply Jen at Introverted Reader 03/15/2023 at 3:07 pm

Haha! I don’t have patience for smut so that’s why I don’t subscribe to Kindle Unlimited. I’m happy with my digital library. I hope you enjoy these when/if you read them though!

    • Reply Molly's Book Nook 03/16/2023 at 7:09 pm

hahah I sometimes like it, sometimes don’t. I think I’m just looking for more light, easy reads right now and so I’m drawn to them. I started The Never King and I’m already onto the third book in that series. So clearly that’s what I needed. Some good ole smut lol

  • Reply novelisticpages 03/16/2023 at 6:17 am

I always go a little borrow crazy on Kindle Unlimited too! I somehow always have the max amount of books – I’ve also been wanting to read The Fine Print since I’ve seen so much about it on BookTok. I hope you enjoy these books! 🙂

    • Reply Molly's Book Nook 03/16/2023 at 7:08 pm

SAME haha yet I never read them, that’s why I cancel then resubscribe. BUT I am learning it’s much easier to fit in reading when I have a toddler when I can do so on my ipad or iphone instead of hassling with a physical book. So I’m hoping this helps with reading more.
