The Sunday Post: The Calm Before the Storm

Every other week I participate in The Sunday Post hosted by Caffeinated Reviewer. The meme is weekly, every Sunday, but I’ve decided to do it bi-weekly since I don’t usually have that much to share every single week. So, here are some updates from the last 2 weeks!

→ Hello! Happy Sunday! I hope the start of June has treated you well. It’s been pretty mellow for us. Honestly, June kind of feels like the calm before the storm. As I mentioned in my wrap-up, we have some activities planned over the next couple months – the aquarium, the county fair, a week-long camping trip, a wedding in Colorado. There’s a lot going on. And now, on top of that and just regular life…

My husband and I have decided to sell our home! It’s sort of bittersweet. This is the first place we ever bought together, but we bought it with a 5-year plan to find a new place. That plan was sans children – then Emerson was born, very much not part of the plan. Needless to say, 3 years later, this family of 3 with toys, books, and hobbies, is quickly growing out of our modest 2 bedroom townhome. We want something bigger. Also, this seller’s market is just too good to pass up. But the flip side is that it’s a seller’s market. The inventory here is really low and what is available is going fast or selling for way too high. Luckily, we’re fortunate that my parents live close, so our plan is to move back with them and sort of ride out this seller’s-market-wave or wait for the “dream home” to show up. I want the next place we purchase to be the last place. I want it to be the home Emerson grows up in, so I don’t want to rush into anything. But with all the said, we want it listed fairly soon, which means I have a lot of work to do to get it ready & my parents house ready for a toddler, which means while I’m going to try my hardest to keep up with my blog, I may disappear here and there for a bit the next couple of months.

→ Phew, if you read that whole paragraph, thank you! 😆 Anyways, other than that monumental shift in my life, things have been pretty normal. In my blog life, I decided to bring back a feature I used to have on here and add a new one. The one I’m bringing back is Authorly Love! With Authorly Love I will feature indie or small pub authors across multiple genres. I will feature 1 author per month with interviews, reviews, guest posts, or whatever the author is willing to do! The new feature is to feature small bookish shops (I have not come up with a name for it yet). This is basically the same thing as Authorly Love, but featuring all the amazing small shops out there! Again, it would be once a month with interviews, reviews, guest posts, or whatever the small shop owner is willing to do!

→ Anyways, wow, there’s a lot in this update section 😆 I hope you are all doing well! Tell me somethings going on in your life in the comments!

A MARK OF KINGS by Bryce O’Connor and Luke Chmilenko
Goodreads

I started this one last week. I’m not far into it because I just haven’t been reading much. I’m about 20 pages in and am intrigued so far. It’s easy to follow and the opening scene was gooooood. This one is a thicc one, though. It’s been a minute since I’ve read a book over 350 pages, so at 582 pages, I’m intimidated – but I’m excited to see what this one is about because look at that cover! It’s badass. Even when my husband saw it he was like “ooohhh I want to read that!“. I’ll have to report to him if it’s any good 😆

*I received this book for free from the publisher.

I hope you guys are doing well! What are you reading? Have you sold a home recently, any tips?

Wow! Buying a new house for good is quite a plan! I hope you find the right one soon! And I love that you’re spotlighting indie authors/books/bookshops again. Looking forward to that feature!

It is! hahah but I hate moving and real estate is stressful to me – I just want to find the forever home (or at least until we’re retired and we can sell it or give it to our son lol).

If definitely is a sellers market, so if you can sell now and make a nice profit it will help when things turn around (as they always do). That’s nice that you can live with your parents in the interim.

That’s exactly what we’re thinking. If we find something sooner that we want to buy, that’s ok (because as I said, I do hope to stay in the new place for a longggggg time). So we will be actively looking when we sell, but at least we have the backup plan just in case things take longer haha

Good luck on your sale and move. It’s a lot of work, especially with a child. Take the opportunity to sort and throw. It’s hard though because you hate to get rid of something when you don’t know if you might need it in the new place. We finally bought 2 years ago after renting 4 years (having moved to a new state) and now I am really sorting and throwing more. I have a love / hate relationship with the process. I hate the work but I love getting everything organized in a new place.

Oh yes! I am DEFINITELY going to be decluttering over the next month as we get things packed away. We need it. We have so much stuff lol But it will feel awesome to have some of the random crap around the house out! I’m the same too – I hate moving BUT I love decorating and organizing homes lol

Good luck with the move and finding a house! I hope you can find your dream home relatively quickly and that you won’t have a too stressful time until then! 💜 And thanks for featuring my posts. 😀

Thank you! That’s my hope too. I hate moving and I especially hate uncertainty (real estate is just stressful in general to me lol)

Congrats on selling your home! I hope it goes well. It is such a good time to sell, but yeah buying can be a challenge! Hope you guys find the perfect place! 🙂

Thank you! Hopefully the buying part doesn’t take too long lol

Good luck selling your home! My best friend has been thinking of doing the same because her townhome doesn’t have a yard and her 3.5 year old has too much energy for that haha. It’s an awesome time to sell but not to buy, so it’s great you can move in with parents!

Thanks so much for linking to my post and I hope you have a good week.

Thank you! And yeah that’s a main reason we want to sell too! We live in a 2 bedroom townhome. We bought it with a 5 year plan, but with Emerson, just a concrete patio and no yard…It’s not perfect haha. So, 5 years turned into 3 years – which is ok haha

Authorly Love is an awesome idea for a post. And grats on the decision to sell your house. Sounds very exciting. When I saw how much our home is worth now, the idea crossed my mind, too. That’s a hard opportunity to pass up. Have a great week! ❤️

Yeah, the market is just so good right now haha. It means the buying part of this process won’t be amazing, but hopefully we find a gem 🙂

Good luck with the move! I hope you’ll find your dream home soon and the move (whether to your parents or to the dream home) will be hassle free!

Good luck with your home buying and selling journey. We’ve been through that almost two years ago, and it was tough but totally worth it. Make sure you’ll take care of yourself. 😉
Have a great week and happy reading.

Thank you! Real estate in general stresses me out but I’m just trying to take it one step at a time. Happy reading!

Looks like you’ve got some big decisions to make! It’s such a seller’s market it makes my brain hurt lol. We’ve never been home-owners and we’d like to start looking, but it’s so daunting.

    • Reply Molly's Book Nook 07/08/2021 at 5:41 am

It really is! Real estate stresses me out. It’s such a gamble and I am NOT a betting person. I don’t even bet on small things when sometimes like “I’ll bet you $5” lol

It sounds like you have a full summer ahead of you. Good luck with the house selling and search for your dream home! We moved into our current home when my daughter was nearly 2 months old and hope it will last us a good long while. I am glad your parents will be able to help you out until you find a new home. That will give you some time and take at least some of the pressure off, I imagine. I hope you have a great week, Molly, and enjoy your reading!

Sounds like a very busy but exciting time. Congratulations and wishing you all the best with the selling process, the move, and the new home! Thanks for sharing those other posts, I’ll add them to my reading list 🙂

The one good thing about a seller’s market is that what you have to do to sell won’t be as much as you normally have to do when it is a buyer’s market. When I bought my current house, this whole crazy seller’s market was really just getting started, but I still had to write a letter to try to convince the people to take my offer instead of the other offer they had. And there were several things on this house I wish had been done before I moved in. But it’s still almost perfect for me. Good luck with all that! I like that you do this every other week. I should maybe try that. I don’t know that I have less stuff like you do, but I know that I could save some time doing it that way. Hope you’re having a good week!

Ohhh that’s so true! Our realtor even said that he’s had a few cases where the seller has been able to live rent free for an extra month or two in their current home. The market is crazy right now lol

Selling your home is such a big decision, but you’re right in that it’s a really tempting seller’s marketplace. I hope the sale goes smoothly for you and that you’re able to find the perfect home for your family!

I absolutely love the cover for A Mark of Kings! Sounds great, too. Gonna have to add that one to my list.

Thanks so much for sharing my posts!
