The Sunday Post: Early Wakings, Vaccines, & Consistency

by the sunday post, tsp

Every other week I participate in The Sunday Post hosted by Caffeinated Reviewer. The meme is weekly, every Sunday, but I’ve decided to do it bi-weekly since I don’t usually have that much to share every single week. So, here are some updates from the last 2 weeks!

→ Happy Sunday! Well, really, I’m writing this post on a Thursday. Out of curiosity, when do y’all write your Sunday Posts? I find it too difficult to wait until the weekend so I always do it sometime during the week leading up to it. Anyways…

The last 2 weeks have been good! Same stuff, basically. Work, date night, family visits. My dad and I like The Walking Dead, so we’re glad that is back on (although, these episodes are kind of boring so far). Emerson’s been waking up early for the last few months. His pediatrician recommended to just leave him in his crib (if he’s not crying) until it’s time to wake up. So, that’s what I’ve been trying to do but, boy, do I feel bad 😆 He doesn’t cry but still! To leave him there for so long just staring into his dark room is not an easy task – but this kid needs to stop waking up at 4:30am so I’ll try it. Do any of you moms have some tips for early morning wakings (I’ve tried later bed times and changing naps, neither worked)?

→ Biggest news is that my husband is supposed to (or should have already by the time this post goes up), get his first dose of the Covid vaccine! He’s an essential worker and has been working through this entire pandemic, so I think he’ll feel better knowing he has the vaccine. I’m not eligible to get it in my state yet. So no vaccine for me >.<

→ In bookish news, I’ve actually been really consistent with everything! I’ve posted on Instagram every day, I’ve kept up on blog hopping, I’ve scheduled and written blog posts. I’m pretty proud of myself. Now, let’s hope this momentum lasts! I’ve even been reading every day. Very little, usually just a few chapters a night after Emerson goes to bed, but it’s better than nothing!

If you stuck through that whole update, you’re awesome ♥

AMONG THE BEASTS AND BRIARS by ASHLEY POSTON
Goodreads

As of writing this, this is what I am reading. It’s a super fast and easy read so I might be done with it by the time you’re reading this post. So far it’s cute. It’s reading more like a middle grade than the fantasy that I’m used to. Although, if it ends up being a good book that means Ashley Poston has written a book in all of my favorite genres and I enjoyed each of them! We shall see.

I need to do some more blog hopping! Like I said in my last TSP – slowly finding the balance between mom life and bookish life ♥

How has March treated you? Did you do anything for St Patrick’s Day? What are you currently reading?

I’m in the same boat about the vaccine – my husband is eligible to get it through work, but I’m not!

That sucks! I feel like I’ll be in the last group as a stay at home mom. I’m not priority 🙁 I get it but stillll lol

I do parts of my post throughout the week, like putting in new books as they come in, but I save the beginning and end untilFriday or Saturday, usually.
And, your pediatrician is correct. That was the best way I found too and I’ve been through it twice. And, if you get them in the habit of actually starting their day that early, it will be so much harder to break. Good luck! And know that your little one is perfectly fine ❤️
    Have a great week!

    • Reply Molly's Book Nook 03/22/2021 at 6:01 am

I should start doing that especially because I post a sunday post every other week! By the time I write it I forget a lot of what happened in my week lol

It seems to be working so far! It’s currently 6am and literally JUST woke up. like as I wrote that lol

  • Reply Greg 03/21/2021 at 12:31 pm

Congrats on your husband getting the vaccine! I hope you’re able to get it soon as well. The distribution is iffy depending on area, for sure. And I haven’t watched TWD in AGES. I should catch up…

So… Sunday Posts! I usually write them on Fridays, but sometimes (I used to a lot more) write them all during the week- like whenever I saw something I wanted to share or whatever I’d just add it to the draft. I kinda wish I still did that rather than always waiting for Friday and spending an hour plus on it lol.

I had to catch up with TWD because I want to watch the last season with my dad. So I had to watch like 3 seasons of it the last couple of months haha. It’s been on for so long! I’ve seen a lot of people say they write their posts throughout the week – I should start doing that. It seems helpful.

I write a little on my Sunday post every day, a sentence or two. We got our vaccines on St. Patrick’s Day – it was the first day we were eligible in our state. My daughter was always a huge sleeper and almost never woke up before I woke her. I would wake her at 6 to breastfeed her and then she would sleep while I showered and got ready for work. She napped 10a-12 noon and 3-5p every day. She had it rough when daycare switched to one nap 1-3ish and napped right up until the day she started kindergarten. Sometimes she did wake up earlier than us on the weekend and we would hear her playing with the mobile and musical mirror in her crib.

I should start doing that because by the time I write my post, I forget things I did (especially since I do them bi-weekly instead of every sunday). That’s awesome that your daughter was such a good sleeper! My son does sleep through the night, which is good, he’s just been waking up so dang early lol I also think he’s on the verge of transitioning from 2 naps to 1 nap. He’s been skipping that second nap more and more lately, with that first nap being longer. Who knew a lot of having a baby was obsessing over their sleep schedule hahaha

Well, it’s about time your state is vaccinating the essential workers. I have no idea how they select who will get it in NJ, but I am glad my dad is vaccinated.

    • Reply Molly's Book Nook 03/22/2021 at 5:56 am

Yeah, they have been for a while it just took a bit for my husband to finally get it. Right now it’s certain groups of jobs and elderly or people with underlying conditions. I’m a stay at home mom – so I’m last most likely lol

  • Reply Jinjer 03/21/2021 at 6:34 pm

What??? You didn’t think LAST week’s episode of TWD was boring did you??? The Russian Roulette episode?? I thought that was old-school edge of my seat intense! The Daryl/Leah episode man. Yuck.

Well, I started NEXT Sunday’s post immediately after posting this morning. LOL I can’t stop writing.

    • Reply Molly's Book Nook 03/22/2021 at 5:55 am

OK FINE that one was slightly better haha but I’ve just been finding them a little boring and also like…what is going on? haha Last nights episode…we probably won’t get an update on that story until next season! Next week is Daryl and Carol again and it looks like the last episode is going to be about Negan since it’s titled “Here’s Negan”. >.<

      • Reply Jinjer 03/22/2021 at 6:25 am

Puts fingers in ears and closes eyes. Lalalalalalalalalala don’t tell me about last night’s episode because I waited all day to watch it and then my stupid internet went out so I could not!!!! I have to stay off Twitter and everything else now. Ugh.

        • Reply Molly's Book Nook 03/24/2021 at 5:00 am

OMG Haha sorry! I hope I didn’t spoil anything. Have you caught up now?

          • Jinjer 03/24/2021 at 6:27 am

No u didn’t spoil anything and yes I’ve seen the Princess/Splinter episode. It was better than Daryl & Leah or whatever her name is but that’s about it.

      • Reply Jinjer 03/22/2021 at 6:30 am

I thought I replied to this but I don’t see it so sorry if this is a duplicate. Basically I was saying that thanks to an internet outage I have not seen last night’s episode of TWD yet so today I have to avoid Twitter at all costs. Sigh.

I write mine on Sunday evening (which is Saturday for you)
As for Bub, if he is quiet leave him be, with any luck he’ll put himself back to sleep. If he’s unhappy he’ll let you know.

Wishing you a great reading week

    • Reply Molly's Book Nook 03/22/2021 at 5:48 am

That’s basically what my pediatrician said lol BUT STILL I feel bad with him just staring into the darkness haha But yeah, I’ve been doing that and it seems to be working out just fine. In fact, its currently 5:58 am and he’s still asleep today! YAY! Maybe it’s working.

Thank you so much for featuring my post!! 🥰 I’m happy to see that you’re enjoying Among the Beasts & Briars, as I’ve been meaning to read this one! I loved Ashley Poston’s Geekerella series, so I’m eager to read more books by her 🙂

    • Reply Molly's Book Nook 03/24/2021 at 5:01 am

Yes! I really love her Heart of Iron duology as well. Its a fun sci-fi if you want to check it out!

That’s great news that your husband can get vaccinated! I get my second dose in another week or so and will be so relieved. Hopefully they start to open it up to others (like you!) soon.

I typically do my Sunday Post on Saturday… but then again almost all my posts are last-minute efforts. LOL

    • Reply Molly's Book Nook 03/24/2021 at 5:04 am

I hope so too! But I want my parents to get it before me anyways so it’s ok for now. Lots of my posts are last minute efforts too. I just never have time on weekends so my Sunday Post can’t be lol

I want to get better about doing personal Instagram posts and not just sharing ones from blog tour companies. That’s great that your husband was able to get his first shot! In the state where I work they got teachers their shots last month, and so I was able to get both of mine in February. Our students don’t come back till next week though.

I just started trying to do the weekly wrap-up posts regularly, and so it means mostly I wait till Sunday to see if I even have any time to do one.

I can’t keep up with blog tour stuff. I always forget about them lol And that’s awesome! My state actually just announced that 50+ can get them soon, and then 16+ will be shortly after that. So hopefully I can get it soon!

  • Reply Roberta R. 03/27/2021 at 5:16 am

“this kid needs to stop waking up at 4:30am so I’ll try it”
Boy, does he. LOL. It must be a nightmare! I hope your method will work eventually.

Glad your husband got the vaccine at least – how is he faring? Vaccines are SO LATE in Italy, it’s not even funny. Only essential workers/people with certain pathologies/people in their 80s have been/are being vaccinated so far, except for instance, my parents are both in that age range and haven’t gotten it yet…😒

    Yay for consistency!

    • Reply Molly's Book Nook 03/27/2021 at 6:32 am

LOL so far it has been working! He’s been waking up between 6:15-7:00 am every day so that’s been BLISS.

Yeah, its super slow in my state. They’ve been on the essential workers and elderly for a while but have barely vaccinated all of them. BUT they just announced that people 50+ can get it starting in April, then shortly after that 16+ can. So that means I’ll be able to soon! But, that doesn’t mean I Actually will because everything is so slowwwww so it still might be a while lol

    Hi Molly!
I can totally relate as a mom of a 6-mo-old haha. It’s so hard to just leave them in the crib to cry it out. We did tough it out as part of his sleep-training a while back, and glad that we only occasionally have to do it again. We’ve only used CIO when putting Theo to bed though (when he cries when we lay him down, we let him cry it out), not when he wakes up. I guess the hard part is that I never know if something’s bothering him when he wakes up (dirty diaper, hungry, etc?)
A few weeks ago Theo was waking up every morning at 4 to 5AM and we just… put up with it lol. Now he’s better (knock on wood) and waking up at 6-7AM which is a bit more manageable. I found that shifting his bedtime later closer to 7PM helped (before we put him to bed at 6-6:30AM.)
Wishing you and Emerson all the best. Glad to discover another book blogging mom 🙂

    • Reply Molly's Book Nook 04/04/2021 at 5:38 am

Hey, that’s better than Emerson at that time! I didn’t start sleep training until he was 9 months old. So until then I was awake every 2 hours with him. I don’t know why I did that to myself lol My pediatrician was like “he should be sleeping through the night by now”. oops. lol I think 7pm is some sort of sweet spot for kids because that’s the new bedtime for Emerson as well. It used to be 6:30 and he woke up too early. Crazy how only a 30 minute shift can change things. Babies are so fickle haha

Seems like you had a great week! My father already got his first shot and will be having his second shot sometime this week (he counts as elderly as he’s 60 this year), but the rest of us still have to wait for unknown period of time until the vaccine becomes available 🙁 Still, it’s good news that some of us will be protected already! 🙂

    • Reply Molly's Book Nook 04/04/2021 at 5:29 am

Yeah, my dad can get it I believe but my mom isn’t considered elderly yet (she’s 64) >.< I think they're allowing 50+ right now and then 16+ by the end of the month! Which means more people, which is good...if you can get an appointment. That's a whole lotta people that are going to rush to book appointments lol
