The Sunday Post: Blog Issues Then A Blog Revamp

Every other week I participate in The Sunday Post hosted by Caffeinated Reviewer. The meme is weekly, every Sunday, but I’ve decided to do it bi-weekly since I don’t usually have that much to share every single week. So, here are some updates from the last 2 weeks!

I ended up getting my first Covid vaccine dose last Sunday (I got my dates wrong in last post) and on Monday, I felt it! First, my shoulder was hurting really bad. They administered it so high on my arm?! I’ve never had a vaccine so high so of course I freaked myself out when I googled it…but all is well. My arm feels better. Pro Tip: Don’t use google for medical advice 😆 In addition to the shoulder, the effects hit me about halfway through Monday. I was congested, foggy, and super fatigued. It went away by Tuesday – but for my second dose, I’m definitely going to be asking my mom to come help with Emerson. That was hard 😆

→ In case you didn’t notice, I did a little blog revamp! I hadn’t changed anything on my blog in years but some recent blog issues inspired me (especially because I had to drop some money to fix the issue). Basically, I noticed my engagement and views tanked last week. I thought y’all just hated me last week. I was big sad. Then I checked Bloglovin’ & noticed new posts weren’t updating there. I went to Twitter to let people know and a kind follower let me know that my blog wasn’t working?! URLs were redirecting people to spam sites. Turns out, I had a virus and I wouldn’t have known if that person didn’t inform me (everything was working fine on my end). So, that’s fixed, I have a firewall, I have a little protection seal that you can see in the bottom right corner, and I decided to revamp my blog! Silver linings! I hope you like the new theme, if there are any issues, please let me know!

→ Oh also, I added an Accessibility Plugin to my site. If you look on the right hand side you’ll see a blue square with a white person in it. Click on that and you’ll see options to adjust the appearance of my blog. I hope it helps!

→ Anyways, that’s kind of it for my week. We played D&D Saturday and Sunday (Saturday with the old group in which the DM is moving, it was the last session. And Sunday with the new group with my husband as DM). Our new group is quite rambunctious so things move rather slowly haha OH and Friday was the release of Shadow and Bone! So you KNOW there will be a post for that coming up. I want to give more people time to watch it before I chat about it 🙂

I haven’t posted much since my last TSP. I usually only do these every other Sunday, but with all the blog changes and issues I wanted to share another one sooner. So, here are the 2 posts I published this week and the ones from last week in case you didn’t see them due to the virus:

By the time this post goes live, I should be finished with Shadow and Bone and have started Girl, Serpent, Thorn. This has been on my TBR for a long time! I’m supposed to be buddy reading it with a fellow bookstagrammer.

With that said, if Dustborn by Erin Bowman shows up this weekend (as it should), I will be picking that one up as well! BECAUSE DUH. It’s one of my most anticipated releases this year. I’m so excited!

Have you read Girl, Serpent, Thorn? Thoughts? Are you going to read Dustborn? What are you currently reading this weekend?

With the blog issues, I didn’t do as much blog hopping this week (since I didn’t want y’all to visit my blog), but I was able to a little once it got fixed! Here are some posts that grabbed my attention:

How has your week been? Hopefully a bit better than mine!

Yes, I’m definitely off using Google for medical advice! Basically I only find terrible things, or you can always find someone who agrees with you, so it’s so not helpful! My mom got her first dose and she heard from a nurse that if you drink plenty of water and eat some candy/sugar before and after, it’s supposed to help with the side effects? It seemed to work for her, but I guess the second dose will be the real test since I’ve heard that one is usually worse!

HAHA right. I was like “oh no, I have permanent shoulder damage” then my shoulder felt fine the next day. I’ve just never had pain like that after a vaccine so I panicked a bit lol That’s interesting about the sugar! I’ll have to try that for my next dose.

Hi Molly! Your blog looks lovely!! I use blogger as a platform and heard this week that they are also planning on changing things again. And I’m so clueless as it is. I am actually contemplating switching to WordPress. But oh the hassle!

Hope your traffic will be better now and there are some really very kind bloggers and followers out there for sure.

    Have a good week!

Thank you so much! I’ve never used blogger so I’m not sure how to switch. I’ve also always been self-hosted so my only advice is that if you go self-hosted, usually the company you go with can help with transitioning! I switched hosts one time and they did all the work for me lol

I’m so glad you got it fixed. I did get the spam redirection but if one can’t look on your blog to be sure of your email or Twitter it is hard to notify you. I hope things will go better now.

Oh wow not having your site working and not knowing it would definitely suck! Glad you were able to work it out though and make some changes. I need to revamp too…

Hope your D&D goes well. I’ve been playing more too and it’s been a blast- nice way to relax. 🙂

Dustborn sounds fun. I LOVED her Contagion.

    • Reply Molly's Book Nook 04/30/2021 at 6:01 am

Yeah! I had NO IDEA. hahah but silver linings right? I revamped and now have renewed motivation lol I loved Contagion as well, so I’m super excited for Dustborn!

Hopefully, your second shot will be side-effect free 🤞. I enjoyed the first two episodes of Shadow and Bone. Will be watching more soon. Have a great week!

    • Reply Molly's Book Nook 04/30/2021 at 6:00 am

Thank you! And yeah, I haven’t watched past episode 2 because turns out my mom wants to watch it with me lol So I’m waiting for her to catch up!

I like your new look, and I’m glad you were able to fix some things.

Enjoy your week and your books, and thanks for visiting my blog.

    Your blog is looking lovely.
And as a nurse, I definitely don’t recommend using google for medical questions. LOL!! People put the craziest stuff on there.
I’m curious to find out what you think of The Shadow and Bone. It’s on my TBR, because I really want to read it before watching the show.
Have a great week and happy reading.

Thank you so much! And yes…shouldn’t have googled lol I was like “omg I have permanent shoulder damage” then it felt better the next day. Ooof. hahah

It’s good to hear you got your vaccine! I think it will be later than September for me, over here in The Netherlands.

I do love your new theme. Hope it makes you happy, that’s the most important thing!

    • Reply Molly's Book Nook 04/30/2021 at 5:59 am

Oh wow! Well I hope you can get it sooner rather than later! I’m surprised I was able to get it so early. I thought it wouldn’t be until like summer for me.

I like your blog refresh, so glad you found out about the virus issue! I have not read Girl , Serpent, Thorn, I am currently listening to You Love Me. Hope you have a great week!

Congrats on getting your first vaccine! I didn’t feel good after my first shot either, or the 2nd one, for that matter, but I usually don’t feel good after the flu shot so I was expecting it. I felt about the same level of crappiness for both shots, but my hubby felt fine after the 1st shot and then felt like total crap (flu like symptoms) for the second one. it wouldn’t be easy taking care of a baby after the vaccine, so yeah, I’d definitely ask your mom to help. All that said, I think it’s worth the pain as it’s better than getting covid and having deadly consequences. I work in healthcare which is why I was able to get my shot back in January and my hubby vaccinated, too, and I can’t tell you how important it is to be protected, so good for you!

I didn’t read Shadow and Bone, but my hubby read the whole series. I’m thinking about watching the series, though. I wonder how you think it holds up against the books. I look forward to your thoughts! 🙂

So interesting how it affects everyone so differently! Yeah my husband got his first because he’s an essential worker. He would have gotten it earlier but he was not at work the one day they offered it to his level lol I’m a stay at home mom so I had to wait until my state gave the green light. But I’m glad I didn’t have to wait that long! I thought it was going to be nearly impossible to get an appointment.

I’m a bit behind on watching Shadow & Bone because it turns out my mom wants to watch it? lol So now I’m waiting for her to catch up so we can watch it together.

I really need to read the Shadow and Bone series now that we have started the show. We are really enjoying it but we need some gaps filled in! Lol.

And yes that shot is so high up! I guess it has to be in that muscle. Move your arm around a lot after you get the shot, and keep your arm limp during the shot, it should help. 🙂 My second dose I did get the chills and body aches for about twelve hours, about twelve hours after the shot, but it wasn’t too bad. 🙂

    • Reply Molly's Book Nook 04/30/2021 at 5:55 am

Yeah, I think the show is trying its best to fill everyone in on what is happening and whos who but it was even a bit confusing for me at times and I’ve read the books! lol Also ok I’m glad I’m not the only one that thought it was so high hahaha I was like what the heck its in my shoulder?! lol

Girl, Serpent, Thorn had a beautiful cover and I need to read it some time. Will have to check out your review. I always think about changing things on my blog, but then I get scared I’ll mess something up. Yours looks great! Sorry you had the issues with your first shot. I didn’t have much other than a little soreness at the site as well as maybe some tiredness. Have a good week!

Oh I totally messed mine up at one point! I messed with the code and accidentally shut it down lol I had to contact my host to fix it for me >.< I am not tech savvy at all. But thank you! I'm glad you like the new look. Happy reading!

Sorry to hear you had such side effects from the vaccine. I hope your second does is milder. Funny how it effects everyone in such different ways. I had very mild symptoms with both does. My mom had absolutely none!

    • Reply Molly's Book Nook 04/30/2021 at 5:53 am

It’s so weird! Like my husband was KO’d on the second, fine on the first. His friend who got it with him…felt like crap after both of the doses! I’m actually surprised it hit my and not my husband for that first one because usually I’m the one that never gets sick and has a better immune system than him lol

I’m loving the new theme! I thought it was only me who got redirected to the spam sites as sometimes it just happened… Glad to see everything is working and going back to normal! 😀
