The Sunday Post: A Slow Month So Far

Every other week I participate in The Sunday Post hosted by Caffeinated Reviewer. The meme is weekly, every Sunday, but I’ve decided to do it bi-weekly since I don’t usually have that much to share every single week. So, here are some updates from the last 2 weeks!

→ Hi everyone! I think this is my first check-in for May! First news, my husband and I are both fully vaccinated now! Luckily, the second dose didn’t bother me at all. My arm was a bit sore and I had a small bruise where it was injected, but the pain wasn’t even close to how bad the first one was. Plus, no illness! I had my mom on “stand-by” babysitting duty just in case I felt like crap, but I felt okay. Also, our state is supposed to fully reopen in June with a lift of the mask mandates! We’ve seen a decrease of first vaccine dose demand drop by 75% (they’re closing all the mass vaccination sites now) and a drop in cases. Nearly everything is already open but there are still some restrictions and some things are still closed, so it’ll be great to see things get back to normal by summer.

We celebrated Mother’s Day at my parents house and my MIL also came. We just had a bbq and hung out. It was a nice day. Honestly, that’s like all I’ve done in May so far 😆 It’s been a boring month of just the same old stuff.

→ Side note: I still have NOT WATCHED Shadow & Bone. So that promised discussion post probably won’t be coming 😆 My mom still needs to watch episode 2 so we can watch together. Honestly, I was in a rush to watch it when it released…but after the first 2 episodes I was pretty unimpressed. So now I’m just like “yeah, whenever you get to it mom, no pressure” because…I don’t care? I don’t know. I’ll watch it, obviously, but I just am not liking it so far.

I was a little MIA from the blog for a week so I don’t have a lot here. Oops.

As of right now (Thursday 5/14) I’m reading Shipped. I’m about 75% of the way through  so I will probably be done with it by the time this post goes up. I don’t know what I want to pick up next to be honest. I want to finished From Blood and Ash but, y’all, it was kind of boring. I got about 100 pages in and put it down to read other things because I could just tell I was slowing down and getting in a slump because of it. It started off with such a bang but now, 100 pages later, Hawke still hasn’t made a reappearance and I have no idea what the heck is going on (shits kind of confusing 😆 )

I do want to read some of the other fantasy books I picked for Wyrd and Wonder – I’ve barely read any fantasy yet and it’s making me sad. So we’ll see. I’m also listening to The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires because a friend of mine was like TRAUMATIZED by that book and well, now I need to know what that’s about too hahah

How has your May been?
What have you been reading or watching lately?

    Hallo, Hallo Molly,

I understand about having a slow moving May during #WyrdAndWonder; its been happening to me too! I had quite a few DNFs and a bad experience with our group RAL which put me into a bit of a readerly funk myself. Then, of course, my regular hours resumed this past week and although that’s a blessing it was also cutting into when I could read/blog etc as I work long hours and get exhausted afterwards to where I can’t even blog hop. At least I love my work, that’s the best bit really. As for my reading choices, I’m shifting gears and going to be reading the books I originally talked about at the start of the event — I was trying to read some other stories first but I just couldn’t get invested into them. Like you said, sometimes you give books a chance to immerse you into their worlds but their just not working for you at all.

I hope you have a better week and hopefully a few Fantasy reads will sneak into your stack!!

Ah man, it is so hard to find time sometimes. Even now, I’m playing catch up with replying to comments and I know I won’t have time to blog hop because my son will be waking up any minute lol. If he sees my laptop out, he just wants to play with it, so it’s impossible if he’s awake. I finished a contemporary I had to read for review, and now I picked up a fantasy so I’m really hoping I enjoy it! Happy reading!

Omigosh I’m so jealous lol – we are still so locked down here. I feel so bad for all of the businesses shutting down because of all this 🙁 Hopefully we are also on the road to opening up and getting rid of these masks!
I just finished Shadow and Bone and really liked it – I think it gets better each episode once there’s more context – but I also can’t remember the books as I read them so many years ago, so I can’t compare between the two!

It really is unfortunate for the businesses shutting down! We’ve tried to support our local faves throughout but it’s definitely hard. Not all of them offered delivery or curbside pickup. For the ones still open, I’m glad they can reopen and let people in. One of our favorite places hasn’t reopened yet, though, and I’m scared they won’t! I want to be able to take my son there when he’s old enough.

Yay for fully vaccinated! Our state has opened up and is saying if you are vaccinated you can go without a mask. But I think that just means everyone will quit wearing a mask. I’m only halfway through Shadow and Bone, but it’s so dark that it’s hard to watch on my tv without having it almost completely dark in the living room. Sad to hear about From Blood and Ash. I have it, and I usually love all things JLA, but I’m having trouble getting motivated to pick it up and start it because it is so big, and I don’t usually like adult fantasy, prefer YA fantasy because it isn’t as long maybe? I don’t know. My goal is to pick that up this summer. Hope you have a good week!

Apparently our gov walked back his mask mandate statement so we’ll see what happens lol. UGH I hate shows that are dark like that! The Walking Dead is like that sometimes. We watch that at my parents house who have these HUGE windows with no curtains or blinds so if there is a dark movie on, there’s no hope you’ll see any of it lol

Boring is good It means without problems so one can think and plan new projects. I’m enjoying the great weather here.

I’m glad to read you’ve been vaccinated and things are opening up at your end. Here things are nowhere near normal yet unfortunately.
I haven’t watched Shadow and Bone yet. I’ve been wanting to though.. But who has the time?! LOL! Hopefully this week!
Have a great week and happy reading.

Ah, I’m sorry to hear that! Hopefully things get better where you live soon! And honestly right? I feel like I used to binge watch shows all the time but now if I have that kind of free time, I want to read.

Yay for being fully vaccinated! I’m glad you didn’t feel too bad with your second one. I still have a few weeks until my second one, but I’m hoping it isn’t going to be too bad.
And I’ve been a bit slow getting through Shadow and Bone too, even though I was really excited for it coming out (although I wasn’t sure I would like it). I still have two episodes to watch, and I’ve been enjoying it more than I thought, but I haven’t been blown away by it. I think I just had low expectations (because I didn’t like the idea of then mashing the two series together) so it has exceeded them.

    • Reply Molly's Book Nook 05/18/2021 at 5:41 am

Honestly, I think them mashing the two series together is what is kind of bothering me. There’s just A LOT going on. Like tons of characters to be introduces and two timelines. I’ve read the books so I get it, but for people who haven’t, it seems like they could easily get lost (like my mom lol)

Thank you SO much for mentioning my post! It makes me happy that you liked it ❤️ & I understand what you mean about Shadow & Bone, I adored it, but I think gets really good in the last episodes and now I’m more than excited for the next season! 😍✨👏🏻

You’re welcome! Ahh, I really need to catch up with S&B. If it gets better later, I want to continue! Those first two episodes were such a slog though lol

  • Reply Lindsi 05/17/2021 at 8:30 am

I haven’t watched Shadow and Bone either, and I’ve been trying to stay off social media so I don’t accidentally see something. I haven’t read the series yet, which is something I want to do before watching the show. I do think it’s great you’re watching it with your mom!

I’m going to try one more time (since it says I’m trying to post a duplicate comment). 😅 I haven’t watched the Shadow and Bone series because I want to read the books first! I’ve been trying to avoid spoilers since its release. I also think it’s awesome you’re watching it with your mom.

hahah! The first one did go through! For some reason when people comment it doesn’t really do anything to let people know it went through? I don’t know how to fix that. I do have to manually approve comments though so it won’t show up right away.

The books are super easy! I reread Shadow and Bone before the show came out and finished in like 2 days. So you should definitely get to them soon!

    All great news!

Italy’s reopening things in batches too, and I’ll get my first dose in less than a month. The hubs gets his second shot tomorrow at work (he’s a switchboard operator for the local hospital).

Glad you are all vaccinated and feeling good! I have watched 7 of 10 shadow and bone episodes. I got distracted and now I’m not in a big hurry to finish, though I am enjoying it. I made the mistake of watching The Woman in The Window which was not very good. I am enjoying Cruel Summer on Hulu. (freeform show) I’m listening to Arsenic and Adobo and am reading Little Bookshop of Murder at the moment. Have a great week!

I haven’t done a Sunday post since forever 🙂 congrats on being vaccinated! I’m still “too young”, cause they’re rolling it out in paces, starting with the elderly. But i should be able to sign up in a couple of weeks 🙂

    • Reply Molly's Book Nook 06/04/2021 at 11:45 pm

Yeah, I was one of the last groups to become eligible because I’m a stay at home mom and young. But I’m glad to have that done. My mom has gotten hers too so now just my dad is left lol I hope you can get yours soon!
