What I’m Listening To

what-im-listening-to

“Music expresses that which cannot be put into words and that which cannot remain silent”
― Victor Hugo

Today is about, you guessed it, music! I was inspired to do this post because of all the concerts my husband and I went to last month that made me realize something: I’ve been missing out on some great music. See, my husband is the music guy. I’m not that into it (gasp! I know!). I’ve just never been the person to put music on while cleaning, I’d rather an audiobook, YouTube, even TV. I’ve never been the person with a constantly updating music library. My husband, however, loves music. So, I tag along with him to concerts and end up having so much fun. So, for the past few months, I’ve listened to more and more music.

I thought I’d share some of it with you. Here are 5 artists/bands that I am listening to now!

Dustin Kensrue

I’ve listened to Dustin Kensrue almost on repeat for an entire month. I enjoy the soothing acoustic guitar and his voice (which I used to hate, but enjoy in his solo stuff). He has a variety of songs from an acoustic cover of Miley Cyrus’ Wrecking Ball (which is amazing, by the way, even if you hate the original), to songs that sound more folk.

Thrice

Speaking of Dustin, this is his band as well (in which he is the lead singer and where I used to hate his voice the most). It’s slowly grown on me, though. This is also one of my husband’s favorite bands who we got to see last month.

Fun fact, the song The Long Defeat is based on ideas from Tolkien’s novels. You can listen to that one below (this is the acoustic version):

Anthony Green

Yet another on of the concerts we went to last month, however, I’ve liked Anthony Green for a while. A few of his songs hold a special place in my heart. If you’re looking for a few upbeat, love songs, he’s your guy. He has some really cute songs. I mean, even his latest album is named after his wife. You can listen to a song of his in the playlist below.

Circa Survive

Oh, look, another band that has my earlier mention in it! Are we noticing a trend here? Circa Survive is Anthony Green’s band, in which he is also the singer. They’re not as cheery as his solo stuff, but just as awesome. FYI, they’re going on tour soon for the On Letting Go 10 year anniversary.

Trampled By Turtles

Alright, this one is a bit of an outlier here. I’m not going to say anything except Trampled By Turtles is a bluegrass/folk band that is just so good. Give them a chance!

If you want more of any of these bands, here is a YouTube playlist for you to check out:

Fun post. I love music but I tend to listen the same old stuff all the time. I love bands like Coldplay, Imagine Dragons and Snow Patrol. I’m going to have a listen to your recommendations now as I need to find some new bands to follow.

I hope you enjoy them! I tend to stay in my little music bubble as well. These bands have been on repeat for like 2 months now haha

I love this post! Music is so important to me. I may even love it more than reading ?. Circa and Thrice were huge when I was growing up in the MySpace era haha. For some reason I just never got into them. I’ll definitely have to give them another listen though and see what I think now!
