Last month I dedicated an entire post to my July TBR but this month I decided to combine my July Wrap-Up, Book Haul, and August TBR into one post!
→ July was a good month for me! My husband and I celebrated our 6 year wedding anniversary AND found out baby is a boy! We went to Disneyland to celebrate the news because I wanted to get little Mickey ears with his name on them 🙂
→ Speaking of Disneyland, we also finally got to see the new Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and it was superrrrr disappointing. They basically just want you to spend money because 90% of it is just merchandise stores. I’m glad we got to see it before our passes expire (we’re not planning on renewing with a newborn coming soon!) but upset it was just…meh.
→ Overall, June was an easy month & I’m looking forward to August! It’s my birthday month!
ICYMI on the Blog:
- I took a look back at my blogging goals from 2017
- I shared 5 of my recent tv show binges
- I talked about the 8 books I can’t believe I read and enjoyed
- I shared my bookish life from a to z
I did terrible with my TBR this month. I did not complete The Bookie Trials. I read 2 books this month:
The Hobbit
This was a reread and I did post a quick review of my thoughts. I’m happy I did get through this one again. I’ve been wanting to reread it for so long because my goal is to reread the Lord of the Rings trilogy as well – but I wanted to get this one done first. It’s still one of my favorite books!
I just reviewed this one the other day so that post is still fresh. This is a horror book based in the Warhammer 40k universe. Most of you don’t know what Warhammer is and it’s making me want to do a whole post to explain all about it! It’s a tabletop miniature game that also has lots of books & video games to enjoy with 2 different versions: a sci-fi version and a fantasy version. If this is something you’d be interested in learning more about, let me know!
Now, my book haul on the other hand…I got 8 new physical books plus added a few books to my library ebook list and my Kindle Unlimited list. Oops. At least the latter are free**!
Here are the books I purchased:
Warrior of the Wild is still $8 USD on Amazon!
Books I added to my Kindle Unlimited list (a lot of these were books I found while blog hopping y’alls posts! So thanks for all the recs 🙂 ):
The Mermaid’s Sister // Fantasy of Frost // Charming // Atlas Fallen
The Hidden King // Fate of Dragons // The Glass Spare // Heart of Mist
Beyond a Darkened Shore // Air Awakens Collection // Charmed by the Bartender***
** Kindle Unlimited is technically a subscription but there are SO many books on there that it can be such a good deal if you take advantage of it!
*** Not KU, just free on Amazon!
Honestly, with all of these new additions to my shelves, I decided I’m not going to make a TBR for August. On top of that, my failure in July makes me want to go with the flow for August. I was going to participate in the NEWT’s and Mythtakereadathon but that requires a TBR so I’ve opted out. However, definitely check those out if you haven’t!
How was your July? Did you do anything fun? Any new additions to your shelves? Anything! Let’s chat in the comments!

Oh my gosh, what a wonderful and eventful time for you both!!! Happy 6 years!!! (And again, congrats on the news of your baby boy!!! I can’t imagine how excited you both are to meet him!) On another note, it’s so sad that Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge was so disappointing! I’ve heard that quite a few times now and it’s sad. Here’s to hoping your next adventure is beautiful and brilliant.
Annnd, happy reading! Have a good August!
Thank you!! Also, yeah, I’ve heard more and more that Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge was disappointing for a lot of people. I did see on the news that Disney expected bigger crowds for it than what they’ve been getting…so that’s probably a reason!
I saw the first book of the Oremere Chronicles in your haul (Heart Of Mist) and I really hope you enjoy it! The series is probably one of my favourite fantasy trilogies of all time now! And your physical haul has books I really, really want to read too!
Congrats on the baby btw!
Ohhh, I see you have a recent post about it too! I’ll check it out 🙂 Also, thank you!
Celebrating at Disney is awesome! It sucks that Star Wars is mostly stores! What even?!
I’ll be getting Sorcery of Thorns in the mail soon! Can’t wait to read it! Fantasy of Frist, The Glass Spare have such gorgeous covers! I hope you enjoy your birthday month!
Genesis @ Whispering Chapters
Right? There is a bar…that needed reservations… and a ride…that I can’t go on (because pregnant)..but still! That’s only 2 “attractions” while the rest of it is just HEY SPEND MONEY! We walked through in less than 10 minutes. Sorcery of Thorns is good so far, it’s the one I’m currently reading! Just dives right into the story. Also, thank you!
Congrats on your anniversary… and learning your little one will be a boy! Too bad the Star Wars addition was so disappointing. 🙁 Guess you can check that box and say you’ve seen it/done it. Hope August is a great reading month for you!
Thank you! & yeah, I’m glad we got to see the Star Wars addition before our passes expired (not planning on renewing with a newborn coming soon haha). I hope August is great for you as well!
The Wicked and The Damned was totally on my radar but I have absolutely NO IDEA what Warhammer 40k is lmao but I LOVE that you can choose between two options (fantasy and scifi) in the game it was inspired by/set in. PS: that cover is! so! cool! i adore adore adore the skulls and black background makes everything so dramatic and atmohsperic and creepy and eerie and i like it, i do.
haha a lot of people don’t know what Warhammer is! My husband is into it and that’s how I know what it is. I’m considering making a whole post about it since it is another hobby of mine/ours. I agree, I really love the cover!
Congrats on your anniversary! And oh that’s a bummer about Galaxy’s Edge! Sorry to hear that was disappointing, that really sucks.
Ooh The Hobbit- I re- read that recently as well with another blogger (it was fun to compare notes) and really enjoyed it. I hadn’t read it since I was a young teen.
Your new books look great! I just finished Immunity recently and liked it.
Thank you so much!
I still need to read Contagion but I love Erin Bowman so I wanted to buy the sequel regardless haha I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Aahh so many congratulations on your 6 year anniversary and the news about your baby!! That’s so exciting 💖 I hope you enjoy Spin the Dawn and Sorcery of Thorns from your haul — I absolutely adored Spin the Dawn and I’ve heard the best things about Sorcery of Thorns! <3
Thank you so much! & YES I’ve heard great things about both of those so I’m hoping I enjoy them haha
Congratulations on the baby boy! That is so exciting!! Glad that you were able to celebrate too! Sorry that Star Wars was a disappointment though, boo! I loved Warrior of the Wild, I hope you do too!
Thank you! & that’s good to hear! I don’t know when I’ll get to that book but I hope to soon haha
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MONTH!! And that’s so adorable that you and your hubby celebrated at Disneyland! 6 years and going strong. So happy for the both of you!! Your July seems to be eventful, both personal life and the bookish life. And oh my gosh, you got Daughter of the Pirate King!! I love that book. You can’t go wrong with sirens AND pirates in one story.
Here’s hoping August will be a better month with more great things in life and more books to make the wallet cry. Enjoy reading your new books!
Thank you so much! It’s crazy how time flies – been married for SIX YEARS? Means we’ve been together for a decade. My goodness hahah
Also YES. I loved DOPTK so I can’t wait to get into the sequel 🙂 I hope you enjoy August as well!
Congrats on your wedding anniversary & Congrats that it’s a boy! =D Disneyland is the perfect place to celebrate such amazing news.

Thank you so much!
Happy birthday month! Sorcery of Thorns is so good. Have you read it yet? You’re going to love it! Sometimes it’s nice to skip the rigid TBR. Wishing you a happy August!
I’m on chapter 14! Slowly working my way through it lol
